Didn't quite like it.. :/ Avatars as it is do not look bad, but those shadows and thread lock icons look too busy.
It doesn't have any purpose on why we need to see the avatar there in the 1st place plus like what the other user here said, it will just attract avatar spammers.
It looks way better now than the red one. Still, if we can somehow trim more fat and make the lines/shadows thinner - it still feels kind of overkill for the sticky/popular ones. Also BTW, how are you going to deal with the icon legend information at the bottom, which still refers to the old style?
At the end of the day, Shawn will do what he wants, he usually does. This section of the forum should really be called > Moaner's Go Here < its like that stupid twitter bar across the top of the forum, did Shawn listen? I would love to see the tracking information on how may people closed that when logging in after clearing their cookies.
Shawn can we at least have some option that will change the shiny new circus of avatars back to the good old green icons ?
@Shawn, I like what you are trying to do, i.e. trying to create interest in the forums, however like many mentioned this this avatar feature is not liked by many. Many of us are webmasters here and it becomes too crowded this way. Thanks
I already kinda asked this question and here's the answer: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=2297004#post16832483
When I first logged on I hated it, but after a couple of days, it's definitely started to grow on me. Very similar, if not the same as XenForo.
@Wulkanen : I know it's not easy but Shawn is world class programmer and he usually delivers some pretty awesome features when you least expect it . I don't see a definitive no in that reply . Although for some people this maybe less annoying this is definitely not what i would call cloud pleaser , it also adds extra stress on the servers . LOL Now i just realized that Shawn might have implemented this simply because the latest SUSE OS freed up a lot of resources from his cluster . Dam you SUSE
It adds no server resources. Requires no extra SQL queries or anything else. Like I said before, I wanted to let it run for a bit to see how I felt about it after I got past the initial shock of change. I didn't like it at first, but it's been growing on me. I still don't absolutely love it, and I have some ideas for improving it.
I hope this isn't another change because it really looks fucked up. I cleared cache, restarted browser etc. still the same.
It's already been fixed... was not intentional. Was caused by a mucked automated template merge when upgrading to 4.1.7. Still going through some other templates that need attention, but that one was done first since it was the most pressing.
It looks nice to me on threads which have a poster with avatar. While the other vacant ones look like poor threads.
You can disable Thread Avatars if you wish under your settings: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/profile.php?do=editoptions Disable Thread Avatars [Yes/No]
Minor extension to the Thread Avatars... if you are a premium member and you mouseover a thread, a flag will appear showing what country the thread starter is from. It ONLY shows when you mouseover the thread so it hopefully isn't terribly obnoxious.
