My problem is I can't find an interesting enough niche to write about. I tried starting a blog about my industry, workers compensation, but after a few weeks of writing I was bored stiff. How do you guys find interesting niches that you are knowledgeable about and also attracts enough traffic to make it worthwhile??

Good sentence there... I'm just joking around by the way.

Anyways, I had a quick question about Google Adsense. Do you have to pay income taxes on the revenue you make? You have to put your social security number in so I was wondering.
Wait, I just looked at the form again and you no longer have to....???

Maybe I'm missing something, or alot, but I spend alot more than "a few hours a week", and my bank balance hasn't grown a single dime..I get maybe $1 a week (if I'm lucky) in Adsense clicks, and my balance is around $15.

First of all, find the subject you are interested in, then visit http://inventory.overture.com and put the keywords related to your subject and see how many searches are there, if you find good number of searches done that sort of gives you an estimate. After that go to overture bidtool (just google for it) and you will find it. Now put your keywords here and see what advertisers are paying for your keyword and how many advertisers out there. If max payout is $5.00 per click and there are total 10 advertisers with your keyword, and the keyword is not searched zillion times...go for it and blog from your heart, speak to industry experts in your subject area, gather the knowledge...for me internet surfing helps much to find the desired content. Sometimes an email to the author of good article will give you more insight. If you provide something unique, your readers will love it. Keep on doing this for 3 months and then place adsense once your blog is popular enough and reap benefits. Don't let you reader feel that you are blogging for money. You don't have to post daily post initially 3 times a week and then probably once a week. Use pingomatic to notify blog update services.

Once you start doing this you will find it easier...first time it is tough though and require patient.
    Good luck.

Hi, Thanks for the links. I have a good idea for a blog and the price per ad ant bad (adverages $1.50 for first 20)

search results are 50K and then 16k eek (too much?) and I would be competing with .gov domains

Is this one thing to avoid? how many times searched should I look for?

Now this is a subject I am learning myself also and the ads are so revelant (spelling?) that they would be on target and clickable with information on the subject.

    hi Chris,

I am glad that I could help. Based on what you have stated, I would say go ahead. I think there is a good potential for you to earn handsome amount here if you provide really good content. Go to blogger.com....register a blog and try to keep your main kw in the title of the blog. Start posting atleast 2-3 times a week, wait for about 2 months. Keep on checking your stats ...learn some marketing techniques here at DP and once your stats improve add adsense and then let me know in 3 months how did it workout for you.

    Good luck

How many total advertisers are there ? If there are too many like 40-50 then you should block some of them. Because the lower ones who are paying in cents may be mfa sites.

    good luck.

Yes. There's a thread elsewhere on DP listing a bunch of MFA sites you can block. I ban those URLs, but I go one step further and actually Google my top keywords. Then I go into Sponsored Links (I drive traffic with AdWords) and find my competitors and block them. This will help a lot.

To all those doubters of Jamx's story...well, I can't vouch for Jamx but at least he/she is maintaining the thread, right? Go thru DP and look at how many "motivational" posters start a thread, "I Make $5,000/day with Adsense" and stir up a frenzy and then you never hear from them again.

Workers comp??? no wonder youre bored...well unless money motivates you as the lawyers have to be paying some nice greenbacks for Adwords on this topic...

Do what you love......is the best advice I can give you

I would suggest, look around closely and brainstorm....

Thanksgiving and Christmas is coming, you can write something about these festivals. I would suggest not to focus on general issues but divide one major subject to multiple parts and then just pick one part which you think you are good about or can write about it nicely and just continue to write for 2 months and then see the results.

    Good luck.

One suggestion to all readers, I see lots of "five star rated" posts here, I don't encourage you to give me reps or stars but if you truly believe that you are helped by reading this thread or you got some new direction to think about or you actually made positive impact on your earnings please give me some reps....it feels good.

    thanks,

Recently I saw some change in my adsense income, the niche keywords which were giving me $2-4/click are now giving me $1-2/click, I don't know what could be the reason. When I check there are some increased number of websites for those niche keywords but still 50% reduction is not understandable. Thank god, I had more niche created so overall income still at the same level actually slightly better than before but if payout was as good as before I would have jumped to almost double my income from adsense. I tried affiliates but so far failed miserably, conversion rate is not attractive at all and money is nothing when you compared to adsense. I think adsense rules.

    It's quite simple to explain

Advertiser $1.00 in January 2007 divided by 10 sites each with one click so each site earns $0.10

Advertiser $1.00 April 2007 divided by 20 sites each with one click so each site earns $0.05 or 50 % less than January 2007

    Boiled down for simplification.

Same advertiser dollar split between twice the sites.

Hope it helps answer your question.

Should you have more questions, I am available for more lessons :D
