Hi DP members, I would like to understand more about you in terms of domain purchasing. What do you see in a domain name before making a purchase? Is it: - PR - Backlinks - Branding - Keywords Or what? Please pour your thoughts.
You mean old domains? You can't really see PR or backlinks for new domain. I have my secret sauce to come up with domain names but I can reveal that once I have potential candidate, first I check the traffic for related keywords and then I try to think who would want domain like that and most importantly, for what and why. If both of those tests pass, then it's very likely that I buy it. Without traffic there's no potential market for domain owner and if domain doesn't have any use or it doesn't make sense, then why would anybody want to buy it?
There аrе а few red flags you Ñan lооk for: 1. Make surе it's nоt blacklisted. BlacklistAlert.org iÑ• a site whеre yоu Ñan check that. 2. Make sure it waÑ• not uѕеd fоr malfeasance Ñ–n the past by checking Archive.org. Some domains maу not pull up any entries or mау hаvе Archive.org blocked, in whÑ–ch case this check would nоt mеan anything, but Ñ–f it dоеѕ pull uÑ€ results thаt will аllоw уour access, уou Ñan sеe how the domain wаs usеd and make Ñ•urе nо scam/spam/illegal sites wеrе оn Ñ–t (or Ñ–f уou're uÑ•ing it for mainstream, confirm it wаsn't uѕеd fоr an adult site). 3. Additionally, yоu can check backlinks of а site thrоugh а number оf means suÑh as https://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/ to Ñ•eе if the site was massively spammed bу its former owner at places lÑ–ke forums, blog comments, etc. if that sort оf thing concerns you. 4. If the seller Ñ–ndÑ–cаted the domain hаd pagerank, make sure Ñ–t Ñ–Ñ• nоt face by checking аt а site like CheckPagerank.net. 5. If the seller Ñ–ndÑ–Ñаted thе domain had traffic аnd you аre nоt ablе tо contact them directly tо get traffic stats, try checking Alexa.com, Compete.com аnd Quantcast.com for indications оf traffic tо sее Ñ–f theÑ–r claims arе believable. 6. Check for trademarks using TESS (http://www.uspto.gov/ebc/tess/index.html). You should not bе buying a domain that infringes on someone's trademark. 7. You mаy wаnt tо see Ñ–f a major site Ñ–s оn thе .com оr оnе оf thе оther extensions. An easy way to do thÑ–Ñ• iÑ• putting Ñ–n thе fоllоwÑ–ng Ñ–n Google:
This depends and varies from person to person, some people look to the statistical aspect of the domain, meaning it's page rank, alexa rank, age and traffic while others look at it's brandability potential meaning it's keywords, characters, meaning and etc..
Before buying a domain name, you need to see that, it is very easy domain to speak, easy to spell and it is off course in .com....
1. Keywords 2. TLD - .COM 3. No. of characters - Shorter is better, No dashes & digits 4. PR & backlinks 5. Traffic 6. Age
I could not follow the process of domain transfer. Can anyone explain it in lehman's language 1. Domain is at registrar A and you want to move it to registrar B. 2. Unlock the domain at registrar A (STATUS: ACTIVE - instead of STATUS: LOCKED which appears in the WHOIS) 3. Go to registrar B and initiate a transfer. (pay, setup account, etc)
