I have had a hosting account with justhost for 1 year for £24, got renewal through for £95.40 - asked why the increase no response. Is this a scam??????????? It is very expensive when you get little if any support.

If you don't like the price increase, go somewhere else. They aren't required to keep the prices the same from one year to the next, unless you had a specific contract with them stating otherwise. That's the wonderful thing about the free market. If you think the prices are too high, you go somewhere else. :)

This does seem an incredible increase [over 400%] for the renewal of the same hosting plan. If they cannot justify it with a reply then yes you should consider moving to another host.

Many hosts do have a 'recurring billing' section which you can active from within your control panel to prevent this type of thing happening. In other words if you sign up when they have special pricing - you can 'lock in' to that special pricing by activating your recurring billing option. Your renewal will stay the same price each year.

We hope this small tip helps in future and good luck.

It's not a scam, it's called bait and switch, mainly because they can't afford to host you at 24 a year, that's a dollar a month which isn't possible even if you have hardly any traffic, no money to be made, yeah even at that big of an increase it's still not that bad, but if you don't like the price, simple, go elsewhere, but your luckly it lasted that long at that price, you won't be finding deals like that unless you want lots of problems, normally 5-10$ a month is the normal shared hosting price, if it's cheaper be very scared and expect downtime, no support, because plain and simple servers aren't dirt cheap, help isn't cheap, and yeah you get it..

Actually Ryan - just for the record, he was paying 24 GBP's pa which is about US$3.20/m. A price which is quite acheivable these days for reliable shared hosting if he decides to swap hosts.

It really happens in majority of web host available today. All we need to do is compare the features and benefits before acquiring. Best to do is to compare and select the best so that there will be no regrets later on [IMG]

Most web hosting companies will increase your cost after the first year of hosting. That is why it is best to lock the rate in by paying for 3 years (or the longest that they allow you to). If you dont like Just Host, you can switch to a different one.

You guys need to look up the word scam, how the hell is it a scam? He isn't forced into paying it, He doesn't have to stay with the company, He don't like the price move on, and go elsewhere plain and simple, It's called a introductory offer, everyone does it, and it doesn't just fall under hosting companies, They get you in, and see how you like it and charge you regular rates, which even $145 a year isn't really that much of a rip off in the first place, Even if he thinks it's that much, figure the money he paid the year before, and the money this year, he would be paying a total of $175 for 2 years, which is only $7.30 a month which isn't expensive at all, if you think it is, go shop around, go pay $1-2 a month, have your site go down daily, then you will get what you pay for, If he went a year without problems which most likely is true since he is still with them, then why complaint?

Options? PAY IT, OR MOVE TO ANOTHER COMPANY.

    end of story..

Oh yeah and next time, don't call it a scam because they never ripped you off or forced you into anything, even with a 400% increase it's cheaper then I would charge for shared hosting.

I forgot to add in something, okay, so I own my own hosting company, and I co-locate my servers with several providers, one of the larger us providers in the world offers a rack for $600 a month, after 6 months, they will raise the price to $1000 a month, So is this a rip off too? No they give you a deal to test out there network, when they could be charging you the 1k a month in the first place but they don't, If you want good pricing sign a contract for long term, like I do, I sign a 3 year deal which locks in the price where they can't increase it except for a small 1-5% for higher costs, and then you see no changes in pricing.

Same with a hosting company if you don't want to see the price go up, prepay for 2 years and then you don't have to worry for 2 years and it may or may not go up, but you won't have to wait and see, pretty simple, If you don't want to prepay then you don't need to complaint, I see this all the time and I'm pretty sick of people complaining about something that they can prevent or change. Now if you signed an agreement or contract for 3 years for $30 and they jacked you up to $100 the 2nd year, I could understand about complaining but you just can't. Now if they are a bad company and bad service, get a pro-rated refund and leave, there millions of companies that will take your business, I have no idea what the company is like if there services are good or bad, but I'm just stating you shouldn't just say "scam" because of a price increase, because $1-3 a month hosting just isn't possible unless your overselling or just trying to build up customers and are eating the loss which I'm sure they did for you.
