You get portrayed as a fool when you call for an end to the current system without proposing a viable alternative(No GWorld, Marxism is not a viable alternative). Once again, no solutions(or none they want to mention). Your interest has driven me to do the research, so here is what I found. You tell me where I got it wrong. 1) Occupy Wall St. is a movement born part and parcel from the company/organization called Adbusters (Does that make it astroturf?) Sources: https://occupywallst.org/article/who_we_are/ http://www.adbusters.org/blogs/adbusters-blog/occupywallstreet.html 2. Adbusters is a self proclaimed promoter of the "anti-globalist" movement(as you can see from the quote above from their website) Yes, that does mean they support the protests(riots) outside the g7 meetings in Seattle, Vancouver, and everywhere else the g7 meets, that consist primarily of anarchists. 3. The official occupywallstreet.org website, presumably put up by Adbusters, features an upraised fist as it's logo, and refers to it's supporters as comrades. If one is trying to avoid the appearance of being anti-capitalist, one might want to avoid such imagery that has been used before by a few other groups: If you think symbols don't matter, think of how an anti-illegal immigration group would be perceived if it used a swastika on it's website. 4) The self proclaimed "Tahir type movement" has now been willingly coopted AnswerLA, a sub-chapter of A.N.S.W.E.R, is busily protesting under the OccupyWallStreet/OccupyLA banner. A little information about A.N.S.W.E.R: (love the opposition to racism by means of affirmative action, which is pure racism.) For the most part, these people are all hard core leftists(smelly hippies, anarchists, bohemians, beatniks, drop-outs, tree-huggers, environmental terrorists, socialists, communists, revolutionaries, etc). Their presence in the streets is a good sign Obama is in deep ca-ca. In L.A., they specifically showed up to and picketed Obama's 30k$ a plate fund raiser, pointing out that most of the people he is supposed to support don't make 30k a year. These are normally the kind of people used by left wing politicians to apply pressure to the "evil right wingers" in power. The left wing MSM media didn't give them any air time for a week for two reasons, I suspect. 1) The left wing media is employed by the very people AdBusters hates, and 2) Anti-government protests are bad for the president's reelection chances. It took them about a week to figure out this thing wasn't going away on its own, so now the usual suspects have descended on the scene like flies on shit. Michael Moore, Susan Surrandon, Union Bosses. Its a free for all, and it's open season on message control. They would love for this to turn into a "energize and get out the vote" campaign for Democrats. Some pundit on NBC declared it a "response to the Tea Party", while AdBusters has been trying to focus on cronie capitalism to gain sympathy and support from more mainstream Americans, with some success. Check out this phrase from the adbusters site, giving cred to the Tea Party: and they wrap it up with this little gem: LoL I saw some insightful analysis discussing the "Blame Congress/Blame Broken Government" message Obama has been using to divide this country in hopes of re-election. Spreading such a message is a HUGE gamble when your party still holds the Oval office and the Senate. He may end up uniting this country by accident, and not in a way he'll be pleased with.
Well, Marx predicted what is happening today over hundred years ago and if today generation studied his writings they they would have known that it is impossible to stop globalism and it is a waste of time fighting it. I suppose your favorite organization is another A.N.S.W.E.R , Act Now to Start War and Expand Racism (ANSWER).
After all, anyone who talks bad about a group that claims to be anti-racist and anti-war must be a war mongering racist! There are at least three facts about the Answer Coalition which made their participation worth mentioning: Direct supporters of Hezbollah and Hamas Formed on Sept. 16, 2011 in opposition to US Wars, 5 days after 8-11 Formed by a bunch of Marxists who backed violent revolutionary groups in the US "Join the revolution!" man! Can you imagine the media outcry if even a few attendees of the Tea Party rallies could be perceived as wanting a revolution? Hell, they get one or two racist scumbags(or one or two lefties posing as racist tea partiers) showing up to their events and it suddenly every idiot on the left is calling them a pack of racists.
Again, you could read their list of demands to know what they want. Right, and here is the rest of that article.... What I feel about the article, is they are tired of corporate greed and corruption, and the influence corporations have on our political system. If you read the demands/goals, they seem to match up with this theme. I thought this was a really good article on the origins of the protest: Just FYI - I'm not necessarily here to defend the Wall Street protesters, but some of their demands make sense. For example, corporations influencing elections with large donations, corporate lobbyists helping to create legislation, corporate tax loopholes, etc. Pfft. The communist manifesto, really? lol.
Actually, the original list of demands from AdBusters remained survived pretty much in tact on the "final"' list of demands listed on OccupyWallSt. Some of them do make sense, even if they are completely unreasonable. Removing special interests and money from elections may be a noble goal, but would be completely impossible without busting every union in existence today, something I'm sure they are not fans of. Sure, and I'm with you(And them) on this topic. Its the 'Wall Street is Soddom and Gommorah" and capitalism is bad mantra I can't deal with, and their tent is rife with these people. That exact phrase is on their original organizing promotion, along with all the rest of the radical terminology and wording. I'm a big fan of reform, but I'm completely against revolution, which puts me squarely outside of their camp along with 80% of the rest of America. Rebecca, I'm surprised. Are you really proposing we take some article in The Nation that uses unnamed sources about the protest over the well documented information that is readily available to anyone with a computer? Seriously, look at the links I posted from the official OccupyWallSt.org website, where they state in no uncertain terms where this came from. Then look at the dates on AdBusters.org, the very first social media elements promoting this event. Where this event originates from is not even slightly in question. And FYI, I'm not here to attack those protesters. I would use Ad Homs about smelly hippies, whether they are protesting Wall Street or making charitable donations to the Republican party. It probably makes me a lesser person but there is no question about it. They are hippies, and they are smelly. They know it, I know it, we all know it. Lets just laugh about it and move on. Like you, I agree with the idea of getting corporate influence out of politics. Hell, I'm even against consumerism and I operate my family's finances accordingly, though I wouldn't necessarily argue that consumerism is the root of all evil in our culture as AdBusters does. I'm 100% for AdBusters being able to get their message out by all available means, just as I am in favor of the Communists, the Anarchists, and the Racists being able to do the same. Lets just not be naive, or worse, dishonest about who and what these people are. In the long run, perhaps it doesn't even matter who they are. This is probably just the beginning of the civil unrest in this country. Just wait till we hit 20% unemployment.
That part is right, it doesn't matter who they are, so why keep repeating the hippie label? Here's a pic of some of those young hippies http://abcnews.go.com/images/US/ap_Wall_Street_Protest_jt_111001_wblog.jpg
Have you read it or do you still believe that the evil Russians in 1980s movies were communists? The problem is people are unsatisfied but also uneducated and that is the reason instead of going forward, they are fighting globalism and hoping to repeat the good times of 1950s and 1960s by putting up import duties.
The art of protesting is gone. It amazes me how much attention these young people are getting and how they are totally blowing it.
Wow, flashback. You ever see the film Rude Awakening? Rotten Tomatoes only gave it one star, but I loved it. i don't know. Perhaps it is because my momma dropped me on my head too many times as a baby. Perhaps its because I cant make fun of the Pakistanis, Indians, Mexicans(or latinos of any stripe), Greeks, Vietnamese, Chinese, Koreans, Jews, Arabs, or Blacks without being called a racist. Perhaps its because I can't use the word "Retard" without being sent to sensitivity training. The only people I can safely still make fun of are the white folks, which leaves me the Canadians, Europeans, and 50% of Americans. Gworld is no fun anymore, so I chose the hippies over the rednecks. Don't take it personal. I too was once an anarchist. On a serious note, its always worthwhile to understand people's motivations and ambitions. The protesters in Greece and Spain, for instance, are part of the root cause of the problems they are protesting. I am also not a huge fan of bringing about change outside of the system we have for change. If that's the way its going to go, I need to stock up on bullets.
The comedy never ends
By your remark, I gather that you're speaking of demand number three. What they are saying is that they would limit corporate contributions to political campaigns. For clarity, I'm listing the current demands again: You're right. And, the socialist influence. I was reading on that "First OFFICIAL Release from OCCUPY WALL STREET" how a college education was a human right. Eeew. I would guess they mean free government education, as in cradle to grave big government taking care of all our needs. What a pity. There are many that would support some of the demands listed above, but are turned off by what's in the mix. Here's the links you posted: I admit, I only checked out the Adbusters one before replying. It wasn't intentional. From the link I missed, it says: From The Nation it says: The Nation is actually saying Adbusters initiated it, so I'm not sure how you consider that very misleading. I know you're not. It's fine. It's just your personal taste. Hey, whatever you do, DO NOT watch this video!! lol. I understand. Since Adbusters initiated it... But still, the protesters are not all the same. They don't seem to be all on the same page. Hopefully, that won't happen. I like the interviewer. The Exxon CEO was especially interesting.
From the King of conspiracy theorist anti-globalists: I have to say, I think Alex actually has this one right. The escalation of this event is an effort to left wing politics to revolt against its own governance to turn out the vote. A left wing Tea Party "grass roots" effort. I found this little gem iof pure wisdom n the footnotes of an article promoting the left wing tea party.
I still can't take Alex Jones seriously, does he believe that reptilians live on the moon or the moon is an alien spacecraft? The guy is almost as deluded as David Icke.
What a terrific movie. I remember the end. There's another side to the situation in Greece. The working man had lived their lives getting paid less than other Europeans and paying outrageous taxes. In return, at the age of 55 (or whatever it was) the government would promise to take care of them. Now, it seems that the government has simply sucked them dry and given them nothing. Meanwhile even now the wealthy in Greece refuse to pay taxes. It's not loopholes, it's institutionalized corruption. For the middle class, the tax collector is little more than a mob enforcer. Tax collectors who up at your house at any time and demand payment. If you are rich, you pay them off, if not, they rip you off. That's Socialism. Greece is not going to change. The EU should cut off the infected area and just kick Greece out of the EU. Great Britain knew this was going to happen which is why they never adopted the Euro. Let Greece go the way of Czechoslovakia. http://business.financialpost.com/2011/09/30/history-repeats-itself-in-greece/
Spoken like a true republican.
I assume you're referring to my motorcycle trailer? I've never lived in a mobile home, if that is what you are insinuating. If I had, so what? Are you saying you are above someone who lives in a mobile home? Coming from someone who still occupies his mother's basement, it's really comforting to hear you express your distaste for people based on what type of domicile they reside in. Could your innate fascination with mobile homes be on par with your similar affinity for bashing homosexuals? In other words, are you projecting your hatred of trailers onto me because you live in one? Lord knows you project your homophobic views upon myself and other's here for that same reason. Personally in my own experience I've found that some of the most successful people I know spent some time living in their cars, on the beach, or wherever they could. And what defined their success and integrity as a human being was never forgetting or regretting a single moment they spent in those situations. I guess that's were you and I really differ. I realize that success in life is not defined by ones house, but rather their home and the family that occupies it. It's a rather cold, dark and dismal world you live in. I only hope that one day you'll figure out just who you are and accept yourself for what you are. If it still makes you feel better to call me trailer trash and imagine things of an oral nature, I'm happy to continue to oblige.
