Need your suggestion on best places to host web directories.

I personally tried with Hostgator and Bluehost for many years but, I am not totally happy to host directories there.

    Any Suggestions?

I host both of mine with A Small Orange out of Atlanta,GA. For a while, they had some growing pains and server outtages now and again but I love how up front they are about it. They even have a page where they show the status of all their servers - a ballsy move IMHO. I don't know of anyone else who does that.

They are quite responsive to help requests. If I had any complaints it is a lack of depth on their backup system (best do your own) but I feel they have helped me with issues that may not have necessarily been under their area of responsibility.

I'm not an affiliate for them but if you decide to host with them, perhaps I could become one. ;)

Theoretically any service provider should do the job, do you have any other requirements such as disk space/bandwidth/control panel or location?

Are you targetting a country or region with your directory?

I have never used hostgator but I have a feeling that they are over charging. You could easily find similar packages at half the price.
Whenever I need to change hosting

    I go to webhostingtalk
    Visit the shared hosting section.
When buying hosting I always look at the age of the WHT account of the seller. The older the better/reliable.

Last time I changed hosting was one year ago. They suspended my account due to using too much cpu. But I am happy with my current host so far.
You could find a host here at DP BST section too but there is more choice at WHT.

I recommend Beachcomber, I have had them for about 5 months now and very satisfied with their service. They have this deal at WHT which is almost free for 3 months to try their service.

Disclaimer: I don't work for them, nor am I affiliated, just a happy costumer:)

Although it is not perfect, Hostgator is one of the better ones that I have used. If you have a problem with a directory they will usually work with you to correct it. I have seen some cheap hosts that just close your account.
