I started my niche blog three years ago and only recently got back to it. I decided to revamp it make it look better, better on page seo, fix grammar etc and added content to it. I also added backlinks and posted to several book marking social sites. Still have to do backlinks for my other pages in it. However I can't find it anywhere on google now. I think they mite have sandboxed it but why? its been a month since I changed it but yet my other pages which are new such as useful links is in google and high up for my term. Whereas my main page should be even higher up but its no where. Is google just taking a while to re index it?

Google will take some time to get in re-indexed. But since one month in gone, there may be some other issue. Check your home page for duplicate contents. Also check your site may file.

Is the roobot.txt working fine? When the time you revamp a site, do you redirect those invalid link? If you sure nothing goes wrong, your site should be recover next month.

Check the cache version of your home page to see whether spider is visiting your blog or not...
Second thing, check your blog using site command... If it is de-indexed by Google for any reason. If your home page appear in the search result.. You need to optimize it is aggressively for higher rankings.
