How much does Google rank based on site/blog UPDATES?

As the title states, how much importance does Google put on how often a website is updated when ranking it (SERP's or PR)? Does it not matter at all if your static website has a lot of relevant and good content? Would a website outrank you if its more updated? Your expert opinion is appreciated.

I understand the other stuff, I'm more interested in the "blog posting" part of it. How important is it to regularly have fresh content?

 

I think it very important because SE always look something new for the customer

 

But does it necessarily require a new post EVERY day? I don't think that's necessary if you have good content on your website rather than garbage... quality over quantity I suppose?

both are important. the web site has to be full of good quality contents and and it has to be updated regularly too. it can increase the crawling rate of Google.
