Not true... you most certainly can if you have too many. The best thing to do is get high quality links to balance this out.
You can write a complain in goggle .they will give you right way for solving your problem brother.............
hi, you can use Google Web master tools to report about your bad external links.my suggestion accept the backlinks once you have trusted.
Here is some info for you... Source & full article: http://www.seroundtable.com/archives/022654.html More info... Source & full article: http://www.distilled.net/blog/reputation/can-competitors-hurt-your-rankings-with-bad-links/ More... AND.... from my own experience there are many webmasters that have taken out websites for specific KW's from their competitors. They add thousands of links generally from networks with the KW that they want them to drop for. Then wait a week or two and *most* if not all the time the KW for their website drops to 3rd page. Note: I have never done this but have seen it done. true story.
I think competitor can hurt your ranking. Make a complaint through Google webmaster tools. Also try getting quality links to balance the effect of bad links. Generally every website gets bad links. But too much can effect your ranking.
Ya, I know of this "conspiracy theory", it's a blatant hoax. There's nothing in ANY Google press release that would involve a -1 factor attached to any link. At worst, your IBL's get devalued and that's it. Oh, as for taking down a site? You can make it DANCE. Drive a trillion links, be them high quality or Viagra ones, to any site and it will probably drop for some time, then get back to the same spot or even higher. Google may sandbox you for a while if you get lots of links, but that's for a limited time. Afterwards, the links will actually count towards boosting your SERPS and you may end up on a better spot. Again, if you don't agree, I *dare* you to prove me wrong
