I have a wordpress theme which needs cleaning of some encrypted links, the footer is encrypted, as well as the entire contents of functions.php, thats right, the entire contents of the functions.php file is encrypted, something I have never seen before.

So if anybody could have a bash at this, I would appreciate it alot.

    Footer: pastebin.com/zVENNbjm
    Funtions: pastebin.com/05FRnzqU

One of the license conditions you agreed to when you got/bought that theme was to not reverse-engineer it. If you want the unobfuscated (it's not encrypted) version, contact the author. It's illegal (and probably a violation of this board's policy) to violate licenses.

How so? you'll find that encrypting dirty links into a theme is the only malicious activity going on here, you will not see vbulletin, IPboard, Joomla, Expression engine, or any other professional scripts encrypting backlinks into their scripts.

Bottom line, if you want to use the theme, that's what you have to use. Select another theme or create your own version based on that theme...

Or find somebody who knows exactly what they are doing, kind enough to clean the code for me, as I have done countless other times with other dirty encrypted code in wordpress themes.

I find it amusing you stick "One for the pro's" as your post title yet the job involves theft. There is a reason that stuff is encrypted. Its so jackasses don't steal the theme.

The reason it is encrypted is so the coder can attempt maintain the annoying, malicious backlinks he sold, he is not asking for the copyright to be maintained, there is no copyright links, only banklinks he has sold directing to random websites who bidded for their site to be linked into the theme.

Right, he sold sponsor links to folks to offset development fees. If you don't like it use something else. You have about 8 million options. Stealing stuff should not be one of them ;)

Encrypting malicious banklinks into themes is far from a respectable action, and I am in no way wrong for removing them.

You are not allowed to remove/reverse-engineer credits from theme that are encrypted. You can contact directly the author of that theme and ask permission. What you did is the same thing as stealing.

The thing here is, what if you're a theme author? They are not spending time for free, they make themes and sell credits to sponsors. If there is no sponsor, there will be no FREE themes.

So I guess my point is plain and simple. Contact the author before doing any action. Do it in a well mannered way.

It's those that are posting on this particular thread that DO know what they are doing and are telling you, quite clearly, that you are trying to do something illegal. Whether or not any developer has sold links and require you, A USER, to keep those links in place is clearly up to THEM which is why there are TOS ( TERMS OF SERVICE ).... Meaning, you can use this IF you agree to those TERMS. If you DO NOT agree with those TERMS then DON'T USE THE THEME!

A "real-pro" would NEVER change this for you!

So why not be honorable and decent and try this act of common courtesy...

===> Contact the theme developer and offer to pay them a fee for a license to remove those links!! <===

    Or GET ANOTHER THEME!!

    end of story.
