What is my Job title in my own business?

    Hi Guys,:D

    Silly question really,

I run a small business online ( I say small.. Small as in staff , fairly big when it comes to clients etc )

    Anyway,
I have people working part time as support and general CS staff. This is fine as their roles can be outlined very well and assigning a "Job Title" to them is easy.

    However,
    When it comes to myself....

    This is what I do.
    - Finances ( To a degree, I have someone for this )
    - Programming / Design
    - Implementation of all new ideas and designs.
    - Technical resolution ( If Sales or Support find a inherent issue , I fix it. )
    - Marketing
    - Sales*
    - Support*
    - CS*
    - Anything else relating to the business.

    * - Others have these as dedicated roles.

    So essentially, I'm the owner..

However. Am i just the "Owner" or am I the "Manager" or CEO or Managing Director or Director or........

People keep giving me different opinions, So its probably a "pick your own".

Just wondered what others think it should be?

    What are you?

    Cheers...ayub

Call yourself Owner, Founder, President, CEO...something that reflects that YOU are the decision maker. Only the decision maker can reallocate resources and change the plan...pick a title that demonstrates that to people because they will want to do business with that level of individual.

I would use the term that fits your specific field. Saying CEO of a company when the company is very tiny might make you sound ... lame.

I agree with ncsalestrainer. If this is your company, you're the decision maker and in the end ultimately responsible, you should give yourself the appropriate title that you deserve.

"Proprietor" is the best word you can use if you are the owner and founder of the company. CEO is actually an employee of the company and may not be able to take big decisions sometimes which only the owner of the company can take.

Honestly, I think you're stressing over something that's not important in the big scheme of things. Call yourself Founder and/or President (which is reality) where appropriate and move on. I am certain you, as any other business owner, have many other much larger matters to worry about!
