Google Keyword Tool way better, but I sometimes use a combo of both. Mostly Google Keyword though along with Google Suggest

As I know data brought up by Wordtracker shows only 1% of the total search for this keyword, and this fact may be confusing for those who use it first time. This is why I usually use different keyword tools( for example wordtracker, semrush, GA) so that you can get an overall picture of the number of searches for a keyword.

I don't know if things have changed, but traditionally Wordtracker got their keyword data from meta search engines such as metacrawler and dogpile. Since those sites get significantly less searches than Google's network, obviously the keyword data would also be limited. If you type the same keyword into both tools, the Google tool should provide far more long tail phrases.

If you're going to invest in paid keyword software, instead look into Market Samurai, Keyword Country, SEM Rush or SEO PowerSuite. These tools offer far more other features that help you find better keywords easier. If you're doing basic keyword research, the Google keyword tool is usually sufficient. When you need something more powerful, you can't go wrong with these paid tools.

I agree with vansterdam, you should try some of the one's mentioned above. Wordtracker is kinda old fashion

I have used both tools. For the purposes of SEO I think WordTracker is not neccesary. That tool is designed to help PPC marketers derive lots of permutations of a keyword so they can keep growing their keyword lists for the ads they are running.

For SEO all you need is the google adwords keyword tool. It tells you how many seearches you can expect a month, and the word tracker tool gets its data from the adwords API anyways.

What I like about wordtracker is the competition that it shows for each keyword. If google keyword tool showed the competition of the keyword searches they could put all of these keyword companies out of business.

I tried the free WT trial for sometime, I still use Google Keyword Tool.
And for easier analysis & reports I use Market Samurai.

In my experience I did not find it any better than GKT. But I haven't
used the paid version so take that into consideration.
