All monopolies are creations of the state and by the definition of capitalism force cannot be used to coerce transactions.
No that is false. In economics, a monopoly (from the Greek monos, one + polein, to sell) is defined as a persistent market situation where there is only one provider of a kind of product or service. Monopolies are characterized by a lack of economic competition for the good or service that they provide and a lack of viable substitute goods.
I agree that occasionally a company may have a huge market share but unless it is created by laws or through force it is not a negative thing and is not sustainable.
With microsoft having such a huge share of the OS market for so long; I do not think computers would have come so far so fast.
And when Microsoft's market share stops serving the public good, it will magically disappear -- whacked by the merciless invisible hand.
Nixon owns bill gates and microsoft too I think nixon ownes Dem Jooos at google and dey control the banks too.
Will, what are you talking about? Would you rather that business can have monopolies? And form Cartels?
You really read that from his statement? oh my.... Nevermind, you are just trying to keep something going.
Thomas Jefferson put it very plainly when he said "I am for a government rigorously frugal and simple. Were we directed from Washington when to sow, when to reap, we should soon want bread." Milton Friedman covers both angles with "The free market is the only mechanism that has ever been discovered for achieving participatory democracy." and "If you put the federal government in charge of the Sahara Desert, in 5 years there'd be a shortage of sand." Friedrich Hayek laid out the cold hard facts with "To be controlled in our economic pursuits means to be controlled in everything." More here
The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of blessings; the inherent vice of socialism is the equal sharing of miseries. - Winston Churchill
Yes, of course, any sane and reasonably knowledgable person would. There is so much that is good that is written on this topic, it seems bizarre that we are actually discussing this as if it were an open intellectual question.
It may seem bizarre to you maybe, but not to me. I think that it's bizarre people would want a totally free market. Globalisation and monopolies are not good for mankind. Without Government intervention they'd be no laws restricting businesses to fuck up our environment even more.
Speaking as someone in the telco industry for several years, I can tell you now that government intervention in the free market equals disaster. Break up the ATT... De-regulate.... Pass teclo act... Little guy gets screwed, ATT comes back together... Never works man. Never. Business's survive and thrive on their own. They also fail on their own. Add in government and everyone loses, save for the monopoly they were trying to save everyone from.
Freedom is all and good, but remember, too much of anything is bad. Businesses would be able to do as they want, and that may not be beneficial to civilians. Think about the environment and the extinct animals a company may be allowed to hunt under the free market.
