There are certainly extremists in Islam. But I would like to remind everyone that the vast majority of Muslims are moderates.Let us not paint the entire world of Islam with one giant paintbrush.

Its nothing to do with Islam.Every religion has it faults in the name of Extremists.Simply condeming the religion isn't good. You wouldn't say it if it is offline ,I believe.

So true. Let's all work together to call out those who give the majority of Muslims a bad name. There is no reason Muslims and non-Muslims can't find common ground condemning practices such as stoning adulterers, and the killing gays and apostates. Those may just be but three small areas, but I think it is universally accepted that those are wrong.

Of course, there will be those that believe those punishments are commanded by God. That does put them in a bind. I guess we could call them out on it, or we could just close our eyes and think well as long as they think it is righteous and peaceful, more power to them. To hell with the gays, adulterers, and apostates.

This is the Politics and Religion section. FYI- We're not limited to only discussing the rules of religions.

That is semantic bullshit. It is the rules that the religion dictates people follow that is the problem.

What do we do when the religion itself is the problem? Where we all agree some rules are evil, do we still pretend that because it is called a "religion" that is must be good?

It is a funny thing for those who deem themselves perfect and change itself as blasphemous. They are stuck with rules they may not agree with and yet have no ability to change them. And yet many do manage to read things though the prism of the world as it is today.

I think the US Constitution is one of the greatest documents ever written. Yet, I can admit it was deeply flawed at the same time. The idea that it counted some people, slaves, as less then whole persons offends me to my core. I can speak of that failing and still feel that it is a cherished document. It is clear on this forum many grapple with the conflicts that arise due to their deep faith in their religion and realities that we do not live in those same times anymore and many of the rules are just wrong in the world as it is today.

We speak out against things we know are wrong. When that fails, we hope it stays isolated. When that fails, we confront it as we would evil by any other name.

But if rules are mandated by your religion how can you change them without changing the religion. To be fair, Judaism and Christianity also should call for execution of the girl since Bible commands the same thing ( I would not be surprised that Quran writers copypasted that execution rule from the Bible itself, since they took so much from it anyway). I don't know details for rape per se but anybody who had any sexual relations out of marriage must die a very nasty death according to God. (Just like anybody else who had ever worked on a Sunday) You will not find anywhere in Bible that polygamy is wrong though, so there is a kicker too. Just marry them ho's up and you are ok.
