"How much I can earn from adSense" A question too often asked by new webmasters and new entrant to the world of web. Many and I definately mean many of them are motivated by some friends telling them that adsense is the easiest way of earning money, many sees such advertisements and next comes the google search with the mentioned phrase. Not that the question is not answered ever or a very secret stuff, still people inquire over and "pundits" write over. There are commonly two view points: AdSense income is inversely proportional to quality of content of your site. second: the better the content is the better the traffic will be. In this thread I will try to explain the findings of mine through thorough analysis. Wait! Why should all the experienced webmasters here read this thread at all? Who am I by the way? dear friends, I am just a new webmaster to introduce myself.
I have been a research consultant for past ten years, providing prototypes, designing algorithms in Image Processing, VLSI, Signal Processing, Web Mining, Data Mining, Embedded System and many more. I am also the founder and CEO of a company that does various research at various levels. ( I am new in the Forum. Hence to keep the integrity of this great forum, I will not mention the name of the company I run or the site URL). Coming back to the point,I had created a website in 2003 for the company which till date has not changed. Yeah! Because I seldom felt that web can be a tool great enough to deserve my time. It is so free! sites like codeproject, wiki, google, all sites are free. Even thoough research means lot of reading, but it also means: you search, you download and you just get back to your system. I always thought great websites are for people with lot of wealth and will to serve the society. It can nevr be the business. I mean c'mon if I earn 5000$ a month in India( yeah, nothing special, my name could well have you guessed it so far) why would I bother a web or no web? It was couple of month's back that I realized, my patents are not being used by many and the knowledge I gained( If at all anything I gained) was not utilized properly. So it was that two months back exactly on 17th of July I just waked up and thought why not make a site and just put everything for free for the people. They might be interested in reading what I know. I will probably share more than 2000 projects that I and my team in my company made. Itleast let the students use it. So I built the Site.
[Sorry for Small posting, but I am writing in wysiwyg of the site and logged in from facebook connect. It is disconnecting me in every 5 minutes and after reconnectng from editor part, a white screen comes. Is it a bug in the script? I dont know, So I am continuing with smaller posts]
Invited all my friends of facebook, former employees and relatives to the site. They said: Great man. Wonderful site that you have come up witj. They joined. Could you believe within three days I had 400 members registred in my site. I was like "wow, this is also cool stuff baby". in couple of days, it started showing in google. That was like , yes this is great. Give information for free and people would appriciate your contribution towards society" See I have never been in web developement earlier, mining is a different ball game all togather. So that was the fun for Me. I had taken a break from my usual work and thought "Lets put some extra effort and make it a great site." And I started working nearly 20 hours a day. A beginner in web technology, without a real understanding of workflow or what the site should really do! So just started Experimenting with technology and really it started coming out well.
"I find it hard to believe that you've done over 2000 projects but never been to DP before." Gosh, My badluck. I have been more in image processing, robotics stuff. Probably wiki and IEEE explore are the sites that I visited most. Even if I had visited DP, I never registered. partly may be the forum's information are free and are not required by you to register! Trust me, I was member of only codeproject and xplore, because download of the material needed a membership.
Then I thought, ok content is good, site looks pretty ok to start with . but what is the motivation? Motivation is visitors. I thought yeah, right, we need visitors track. I need to know who are visiting the site and how long they are staying and all that. I had no experience with web analytics, So I started checking mySQL database for different logs. And then I realized that none of my friends have ever given the site a revisit. That stat demoralized me like anything. If I did not have visitors, then for whom I am publishing the contents for? It was that first day of the analysis that changed a few things. I took it bit too personaly for comfort that my invitees never comes back? So that means people do not want such information. But than I realized, may be just may be these people are not the people who require the information. and in today's world everone needs information. From that day I started reading "how to reach people who needs your information?"
Ok, Another Disclaimer, This thread is purely about my mistakes and their correction with respect to my site. The stuff I learnt in hard way. You may not actually gain any knowledge reading this. This is nearly Midnight Here in my country now. So leaving the thread for moderator's scrutiny. I am new to community. So do pardon me if I have made a mistake or initiating the thread. Not necessarily. I personally know people who work as "techies" for volkswagen, reno and even Microsoft who had never heard of DP. And we're talking hardcore developers here. I can only imagine how many other great specialized forums are out there that we don't know about yet. As for the OP, I really appreciate the comprehensive introduction and completely support your effort to share facts about how to earn online, but can you please worry less about whether you're new over here or not and actually write something concrete about adsense? Don't get me wrong, what you're doing is fine, but I'd keep it shorter if possible.
Sure, I would keep it Pinpoint. My agenda is to blend the advice with the experience. Everybody says "look at your adSpace". Change color. What I am trying here is an analysis. SO just bear with me a bit buddy.I will get it straight.
Cutting the Long story short, it is this event of friends, evading the sites that lead me to understand how web actually works. And In consequent posts I will try to reveal each factors of web to be best of my knowledge. So just stay tuned.
1. Building a Content Management Website Contents: Wiki, Articles, Blogs, Photos and Videos, News Item, Micro Blog, Documents, Source Code etc Challenges: To Integrate various Social Networking Plugin ( Example Login through Facebook) Content Access Control ( Which type of User can access which type of Contents) Comment Integration Search Engine Optimization Organic Groups Communication 2. Building a Service Say for example you have developed a Novel Idea. You can find area based food preference of people. You can make a Webservice. Other sites will call the functions of this web service. Something similar to APIs as you commonly Know 3. Bulletin Boards A bulletin Board is a Forum as digitalpoint Forum. Well you can build a unique forum with your workflow. 4. E-commerce Website This are the sites purely for purchasing and selling of goods online. they have Payment Gateway Showcase System Security Social Integration Blogs about the Items in the Showcase Coupons. 5. SAS ( Or Software as a Service) These are basically websites that are build so that other can access it's services. For example a Learning Management system: That will have professor privilege, student privilege, Gradebooks, Quiz, Marks System, Sharing of E-books and kind of stuff like that. So basically colleges will purchase a license and give account to professors. Students under him can join from free and take the services. How do I decide what type of website is worthy? Whether I should run a Bulletin Board or Should I run a CMS? This is another common question. Therefore I will try to answer this question in the easiest way out. "How really to decide?" First thing of your project is to select a Niche. Niche are the subject of the websites. Many people give you advice like " First search in search engines. Find the better paid keywords and build your site on those niches". No absolutely no. First ask yourself what you are good at. Find out the topics that drive you crazy. Find out the topics where you are sort of specialist. Like, you can answer a few questions asked by your friends and people around you. If that subject drives you crazy than, you sure are for that Niche. Remember: A Website can not be run purely taking into consideration of How much money you can make. Sure you can build a website around phrases that draws more search engine traffic, but you will never succeed to make it that great of a site, simply because you can not give input or insight to the site. Bottom-line: Build a site around a subject or Niche that you know well or that brings sparks in you!Example: music, movies, science, garden, pets, Sports, News etc. But before you jump into building the site on that Niche, do some homework. If you want people to visit your site, there should be some reasons right? There might already be hundred of websites around with good content on that subject. Then why people come to your site? Search that phrase in google. Find out other related Sites on that subject. Make a note of their look, services, organization of the sites. Register in few of those sites to understand the site from end user's perspective. Do you found anything missing there that you might want?If so find out all those points. Your primary objective will be to build a site that offers the missing stuff that you wanted! Again before you jump into building a site with that, just see if those things that are 'missing' according to your perspective is really desired by large audience or not. Now we are in the right track. You know the objective of the site, the type of content, the type of services and also type of that you get for your site. And that is the first thing you need to ensure before you think of making money. With this understanding we will go to next part, selecting the tool/technology for building your site. (Remember you have not talked about adSense yet. But what mistakes you do not make initially, attributes to what success you get later on). And You can earn money only on a site build on your area of expertise or interest. Make this a thumb rule.
Are you finding, this reading Tedious and Long Enough and Want to earn quick money? Look for some advertisements who offers you that. But Hey! Remember there is no shortcut to success and it is better to just know a few aspects of website building before you think of those SEO techniques and money making. Still not encouraged to read on? Well friend, you are your own. It is really better to 'Make Mistakes and Learn than to Learn from those who themselves made the mistakes and learnt!'
The Next Big Step Site Design So you are done with the theme, niche of the site. Now you get a domain and start building the site. It is important to have a domain of yours rather than creating a blog in other domain. While designing the site, never copy the style of another site. Imagine what could be best from end user's perspective and follow your mind. Design should be elegant and unique or attractive. But never make the site Flashy. Test the design with some post. Check readability. once design is ok with you, you are ready for the next challenge. Write Content. Writing contents is most important part of the website. Never be in a Hurry to copy paste other site's contents and just change couple of starting sentences to get going with it. Take time, write your own content and proof read it. It is important to proof read. check typos and grammar. Basic things , but real important things. Be ready with some five articles minimum to start with. Publish them and go online.
