With Google’s contract with Firefox (as the default search engine of the browser) set to expire on November 2011, Bing is eying a big chunk of the market pie Google shall leave behind in case a renewal falls through. Stats reveal that 9% of total search queries are diverted from Firefox, and market estimates are that 86% of Firefox’s revenue generated from Google last year. In case Google views Firefox as Chrome’s competitor, and refuses to sign a deal renewing the previous contract, Bing is poised for a break at 40% of market share. Investors are paying close attention to Google's thoughts about Firefox, which has 21.5 percent of the browser market share, or an estimated 450 million users, according to StatCounter.
Well good for Bing and tough luck for Chrome both ways. Bing is nothing SE and now that it has now collobarated with Yahoo Search results, it sure stands fit to grab that 40% market share. Firefox is the best browser, beats IE any day of the week.
That could change the game for this SE war if that happens but surely, Google knows that. They don't even recommend to use Chrome instead of Firefox...
Nice sharing. There is no doubt that firefox is competitor of chrome on this situation it will not positive for google to renew their dead. If bing can achieve 40% of market share then it will be their great achievement.
Good Point.Bing also competes Google at Image searches.Facebook uses Bing.Even at mobile platforms Bing is competing well.Seems Google made too many rivals
Good observation! There is 60-40 chance that FF renews with Google. FF is likely to increase the demand for compensation several times (as the PPC rates have gone up substantially). Bing is likely to compete with Google in this area. If Bing pulls it through, then Google will be a big looser! Particularly with Panda update(s). They burned bridges with webmaster community.
lol why whould they wont renew it again? se market share is very important for google as this is their main stream of revenue, and for firefox it's important as well, because of the revenue they generate
As Microsoft's Bing is competing with Google. So Bing will try to attract Firefox with more revenue. But it's neither easy for Google nor for Bing to win this fight. From this webmaster will also get some benefits if search engine market will be divided between Google and Bing. But I don't like ones win . I want them as competitor of 50%-50% or nearly equal to it.
