Hello, Quick questions about footer links... I have a site that wants to put a large amount of links on to the bottom of the homepage. Essentially it's going to be a sitemap at or near the footer, only on the homepage. Zappos.com has a similar group of links at the bottom of their homepage, it's basically just a re-iteration of the main navigation. Has anyone experimented with this or have any experience in doing this? Did it hurt, did it help? Any feedback is great! Thanks!
Only if the links are 'ideally' meant to be in the footer. Make sure that they don't look and feel too much. If you're thinking about making it a human sitemap or something, create a separate page for it. Passing link juice to other important pages can dilute the effect since you have lots of links on your homepage -- then again, you can still add rel="nofollow" tags on them if you don't want them stealing link juice from your other important pages.
I would not go for this kind of Footer navigation, if it be my site. this will give a messy look to website. secondly i don't think so anybody is going to scroll that down. and also the link juice. We do the most of link building for home page and it has a higher PR, i would not like to dilute it by linking un-important pages. If you have to place the link find out some kind of arrangements like the drop down is used in top navigation. Then add nofollow before the less important pages.
100% right. Here's a webpage that explains a ton of OnPage/OffPage SEO factors: http://www.vaughns-1-pagers.com/internet/google-ranking-factors.htm I recommend it to those who still believe "juice" can be lost or stolen.
