Make your page attractive.... your page must encourage user to like it. Give them a reason to like... offer them something in return after they like your page... Ask your existing fans to invite their network of friends to join your page. Join groups & pages of your niche and invite their members to your page.
All of the above is correct. Try and get 3-4 people who love what you're doing and get them to suggest the page to their friends. The key is quality content and viral marketing.

I don't entirely agree with that. I've had plenty of clients who have successfully utilized that strategy. It's not a basic "suggest to friends" type thing, but a more personalized, "you have to check [blank] out because blah blah."

I don't understand what you mean. The point was having people promote the page, as in someone outside of the business writing a review for example, and asking their friends to like the page is a good strategy to prod the viral nature of Facebook.
Target the right age group of people who like things about your page, find people who like similar stuff and then invite them to join your page or get them to like it. Write some really good reviews about your page.
You should also check the "Use Facebook as Page" link in your settings and post on similar niche pages as your page title, meaning people will click your name on the comment to see your page. Works for me.
