You have to use keyword checker tool, where you can check competition of keyword and monthly searches. If keyword competition is very high then it takes time to come on 1st position of google. So try this and start working on this keyword.

    Thanks,

Real quick and simple answer, well maybe not that simple. It depends on your level of knowledge of your market. Enter your keyword into Google search engine. Take a look through the results. If you see other websites offering the same type of product you are offering, then you know you are focusing on the correct keyword for your market.

I agree with what the others say. Use the google keyword tool as linked above and then research the keywords, find a keyword with low competition and target that for rank 1 on google (that should get you a decent flow of traffic to start your website with) then you may target some of the higher competition keywords but note it will be extremely difficult to rank for these and it may take years of hard effort to rank number 1 but when you do you will get so many visitors you will not know what to do with them all! ;)

I agree with everyone on the google keyword tool. It may help you find other key words that are more often searched in order to drive you the most traffic.

I would use a combination of google adwords and traffic estimator, just to see if there are competitors bidding for that keyword. Also use exact phrase results to get a better accurate traffic estimate

Here's what I would do to target that keyword COOLDUDE.

Buy a domain with the exact keyword inside of it or create a blog post on a domain I already own.
Next I would install WordPress on that webpage with the keyword in the title and subtitle of that post.
I would then do proper on-page SEO targeting that keyword, like H1, H2, and H3 tags with keyword inside, also bold, italicize and underline the target keyword.
Have enough keyword density within the content of that post so it won't look like I'm stuffing the page with the keyword. (By the way I have a plugin that analyzes all of this automatically).
After that I would publish that blog post then build anchor text backlinks with multiple services I'm subscribed to :)
If I wasn't subscribed to any link building services I would just manually build the links until I'm satisfied with the rankings.

    Hope this helps :)

Well, you have to make competitor analysis for the same keywords and have to beat the rivals in terms of backlinks and even building your social presence will improve your brand awareness.
