I am surprised to see similarity of LinkExperiment with my new venture, WriteAbout.us.

Happy - the model does work!
Sad - Someone is ahead of me
Doubt - Will my venture distinguish itself? It does have its unique selling proposition.

But luckily WriteAbout.Us is more on the directory than the link sale. Link sale is used to finance the coming launch of human edited directory (hope it is successful).

If you are referring to WriteAbout.Us, the +sign is just a decoration, but if it is confusing, I might want to change it.

It works this way: Advertiser pay to get their links on the page. LinkExperiment is well established, you can tell by looking at the link price. WriteAbout.Us has just launched, and it allows free links. Just talk about WriteAbout.Us on your site or blog and submit the link to WriteAbout.Us to get a free link.

Getting a link when it is new is good, as you will stay up there for quite some time, though the traffic is less. Once the popularity picks up, free links won't stay long, and paid links will be expensive.

If he keeps getting in the news then he'll keep making a lot more. Million? Probably not. He can't let the press die down about it, though. I think it's pretty cool.

The site has a PR of 4. I can't believe paying anything more than a couple bucks makes it worth paying to have your link put on their site.

PR doesn't tell you how much traffic he is getting. He might be getting tens of thousands visitors a day from the publicity. Buying a link on a site like this is betting on the popularity of it not necessarliy a good pr backlink.

Forget about the PR4...it has more than a hundred links on it which is a no-no for passing on the PR. BUT, it does get a ton of visits thanks to the press it receives, so the top few spots will certainly get some visitors.

let's see here. PR4 and an Alexa of 27352. What guarantee is there that I'd get any traffic? How much traffic does a site like this get?

    Goodness Knows !

All I know is that everytime I come across a site like that I close the window as quick as possible. They are so ugly and jumbled up it actually hurts my eyes.

And I it's bad to have nothing but unrelated links on a page isn't it?

What's the difference between something like that and a link farm?

I s'pose I should google "linkfarm" to find out, but the idea doesn't inspire me a whole lot

It's just the same as that pixel ad idea and that's died a death already hasn't it? :s the pixel ads made me feel sick as well - too many jumbled up colours.

I'm very concerned of this issue (having only ads on a page), so that's why I'm making the site evolve into a new concept for advertisers. =)
