I am not an expert ahkip, but like you I am all the others including the chief washer up, and shopping boy
a prime example Tops 30 I never said in my post you needed a degree to be an expert. I simply stated most experts have degrees. And inventors are not really experts... many invent things by accident necessity is the mother of invention.....not expertise
Well now that contradicts what you posted earlier... as no 'expert' as you labeled inventors... would need 10,000 attempts would they??? PS Ben Franklins discovery of electricity to power tommys lightbulb...was however
I'd say he became an expert along the way and definitely was one (the only one in the world to know how to do something must by default be an expert at it) by the end of it. So were the Wright brothers and may others.
Anyone can become a self-proclaimed expert of anything they wish. Actually being able to deliver the service that you claim to be an 'expert' in is another matter entirely. It is slightly worrying when I see some SEO 'experts' asking some very basic questions on here, and fail to grasp basic PR and link sctructure concepts which are fundamental to the job. On the other side of the coin, I don't have much sympathy for people that hire and 'expert' without establishing their true credentials before they hand over any money.
In my world the "experts" are the ones making the big $$$ - for themselves or clients. Everyone else is just playing the game
Add to that, complete lack of understanding of basic technical issues. Sadly, number of such people are increasing day by day.
yeah pretty much , or they pretend and lie about making lots of money in order to make a name for themselves or there are people who are really visible on forums and blogs but don't actually have any sites that rank for anything
SEO is a field that is constantly changing. Therefore, the only way to become qualified for SEO is to read articles, forums, blogs, and keep up with buzz. I seriously think there are SEO experts and then there are SEO enthusiasts. If the enthusiasts keep up, they can do a lot for the business, but I've heard of "SEO experts" who still focus on Meta Tags, so you have to be careful with who you deal with. Now, that is not to say that people can't get SEO if they have enough desire and the capacity to learn. But being a SEO expert is like being an internet expert; it's not exactly possible to be a total SEO expert without constant adaptation.
I wonder if the only real SEO experts are those working on the algos? All of the rest of us are just making lucky guesses, some of which pay off really well. But get out of the game for a few months, long enough for an update to take place, and you could well end up just as clueless as the next person.
I have heard stories of people with decent Search Engine position find themselves lost in the shuffle after a simple algo tweak. Some of these considered themselves fairly SEO adept. Aside from Google offering a course in it, which I don't see happening, you are likely right in your position that real SEO experts are those who program the spiderbot. But, I have noticed that excellent performance requires constant learning from one another, and even those who consider themselves "experts" get hints from others. You also have to consider there are many varieties of SEO, and some can excel in one field (like content) while they are mediocre in another.
Apparently you have been reading a lot of fairy tales and fables. What SEO can program a third party's spider ??? No SEO has control over googlebot, yahooslurp or any other search engines spiders...they certainly cannot program it...most have problems getting the spiders to crawl their sites....
I believe he was implying some programmer who works at Google, or Yahoo, and knows the algo, and does some freelance SEO on the side. Huge conflict of intrest, and perhaps employment contracts dictate that this is a no-no. P.S. I would include myself in this list of recent "SEO experts", and learned most my knowledge from forums and testing on my own sites. Oh well. I dont use the word expert to describe myself but I know enough to get results. Thats all that matters.
Hmm interesting...hopefully engineers are paid enough not to go into the SEO field. I am sure there is something Google has in addition to non compete / non disclosure to ensure their people are not out circumventing the algo...otherwise no SEM firm would have a chance to compete and that is certainly not the case from my experience
If an SEO expert is any good is really easy to proof, isn't it? Just show me that you can at least compete with the SEO experts in your area. If you do not show up in the top ten listings on any of the searc engines for the SEO term of your choice (actual keyword) than you better call youself 'SEO Apprentice'
