I am thinking about creating a cooking recipe website with giving preference to indian foods. I don't know whether its a good idea. Is it worth the effort?

It is a great idea, but I recommend you focus on one type of Indian food to begin with, and once you start ranking well for that then you can expand into another area. Remember, any website topic is good providing there is demand for it, and you are able to provide quality content.

The question you should be asking is, 'do i have a passion for cooking', if you answer yes, then you will be able to start and maintain your cooking recipe website. Remember for it to flourish online you will need to post regularly... how will you post if you have no passion for it in the first place? Assuming you have a passion for it, it is worthe very effort, trust me.. especially if you finally decide to monetize it!

If you focus on a certain cuisine it can do well, but do not do a general recipe site, there is far too much competition.

thanks, so i think i will use wordpress only! :)

My passion has nothing to do with recipes! I am sorry, I am interested in making some money only, so far so good! But i need to increase my income so that I can stay home and make money! As long as this is my aim, i will continue to post and update!

ok. thanks for the suggestion, i guess I will try south indian dishes first!

Wordpress should be fine. I too have a food site which ranks 1st page for a couple of kws. I have several sites, but this niche heavily relies on having decent content, so make your recipes good!

I don't think so. There are too many recipe websites around, so the competition may be hard.

I Also have such an idea about recipe site. But you can not write a lots of things about, if you are not passionate about cooking. It needs a lots of time and if you want to be unique, You have to post some nice recipes methods along with photograph and if possible videos. Otherwise all your efforts are going into fume.

It is a good idea. Just make sure to write quality content. There are a lot of great ideas in this thread. I definately backup the statement of choosing one thing and focusing on it then slowly expand when you have some followers. Hopefully this works out for you!

There is nothing like that you should start with some so and so website.. You can start with any website.. All you NEED is a traffic for your website.. So work hard to get that traffic..

This is a great idea. I would advise you to do the following :
Have traffic. Focus on one cuisine and meal first (lunch or dinner would be best). Interact with your visitors through forum, blog and reply to comments. Also passion is very important as it makes you qualified and seem confident in front of your visitors which will increase the chances of doubling your traffic.
    Good luck and take care

As long as you are passionate for your niche, and it has a relatively good amount of traffic, there is nothing stopping you
