By the way, what is Milestone Requested money? Do I need to pay for it when people offer me like.... £200, 150 Milestone Requested.

Or it's optional if I want them to finish within time frame?

No , since on your budget is quite small i guess you'd be working on freelancer type contract . So you negotiate directly the terms with the person doing the job . The deadlines are set by you and negotiated (often clients set generous deadlines IMHO) . The only middle payment that might be requested is once the design part is finished and a coding begins . The client then might be required to pay for the design to show proof that he won't run away with the goods , that will be true in your case since you don't have any reputation (nothing to loose) . After the websites (HTML & CSS) go live the programmer shouldn't ask for any more money since the back end will be on the server , therefore impossible to steal under normal circumstances . I'm assuming that the programmer in question is not a amateur and owns a server to demo the site for you .

Thank you so much again for your reply.
I have another question,,, if they request £200, £150 Milestone Requested, after I paid for £150 milestone...when the website is done, I will have to pay £50 (£200-£150)or another £200?

And I'll bet 100 USD that your website will be far from perfect .

If they said that i'm afraid you have some bumbling idiots on your hand . My guess is that they charged you 150 GBP for the design and 200 GBP for the coding .
As i already said the way it should e done is that when the design is done you pay for it and then you pay when the entire website is functional . At least this is how they should behave in your case . Your website is in the auto business and I've yet to see a customer to try and run away with freshly painted car :D

Only the person building it for you can tell you that. People living in huts are happy to get £50 for building a complex site, people living in civilization who have been building websites for a couple of decades are looking for 4 figures or more, depending on the complexity (and an eCommerce site is complex).

As far as milestones (progress payments), that'll be in the contract you're offered before any work begins. If you don't see a written contract first, you're dealing with an amateur, and you'll get anything from a great site to robbed blind.

To play it safe, go with someone who has real customer feedback to past similar projects when you are on websites like freelancer, and elance because you may see developers bidding on your projects with good reviews but with projects that were different. Like someone having mostly reviews for SEO work rather than web design. And what you will learn quick with web design is "you get what you pay for" ;)

If you want to hire a freelancer, the best way to find one is to use the biggest (and oldest) this kind of site - vWorker.com (aka Rentacoder.com).

Actually, the best way is to find a site that you like (and that's the same type that you want - an eCommerce site in this case) that has a link to the developer's site. Go to that site and contact that developer. You already know that they're capable of designing what you want.

You might want to look into OsCommerce which is actually open source so there is no cost, once you get past the installation and you can even pay to have it installed and most will do it for under $50 or even lower. You can create a shopping cart by configuring to your PayPal account and there are even a lot of sites in their home page you can view. I really don't know what you have in mind for your site but you might want to look into it. I think it is crazy to pay even $1000 for a starter site of any kind.
