There have been growing tensions in recent years between Turkey and Israel.

Israel intercepts all aid vessels to Gaza, and it seems Turkey is having enough of it, especially after the attack on the Mavi Marmara where a number of Turkish citizens have been brutally killed, Israel did not even offer an apology.

Turkish officials told the Hurriyet Daily News:

"The eastern Mediterranean will no longer be a place where Israeli naval forces can freely exercise their bullying practices against civilian vessels,"

Turkish official was quoted as saying. As part of the plan, the Turkish navy will increase its patrols in the eastern Mediterranean and pursue "a more aggressive strategy".

Will this end up in a war between the two nations?

You want that, but it will remain just your dream...
It's nice that you're so worry about Israeli naval forces, but no worries, they will find places to keep their ability on the level enough to keep you guys down as usual. :)

Either that or the Israeli regime will do something stupid as usual, and unforeseen events will occur.

I'm worried about Israeli naval forces bullying aid workers.

This could place the U.S. in a difficult position.Israel is of course a stanch ally of the U.S. but Turkey is an important Nato member and the U.S. has airfields on Turkish soil. Also let's not forget that Turkey borders Iraq and that mess is far from over.

Don't worry yourself Solar Products. I'm sure those "'aid workers" will be armed.

    Good point.

If I was on a freedom flotilla somewhere in the Mediterranean sea knowing that there's some paranoid guys patrolling the area I would be armed too.

Nice to see the pretense of the poor bullied aid worker is being dropped, but remember they've had their ass handed to them on the last few attempts.

I'd be surprised if the Turkish navy committed something as stupid as an act of war against the state of Israel.

Guys like you might enjoy the thought, but the reality is it'd be a bad move for Turkey and they know better.

The Turkish navy is outdated but does have a few frigates and ocean going corvettes. But the'd best avoid the Israeli shore batteries. The Israelis have shore to surface missiles, but far more dangerous are their large fast torpedo boats that are armed with hedgehog missiles. The Turkish navy would be committing suicide if they got too close to shore. And if you're a Turkish captain are you going to sail close to Israeli dive bombers?
The Turks are outgunned and they know it.The hubris coming from Istanbul is for P.R. only and "probably" won't amount to too much.But....who can say for sure what will happen?

Yes, but what if it's Israel performing the act of war? Would that be okay?

One generally responds to an act of war with an act of war. Israel would most definitely consider a violation of the blockade an act of war, but as Rob says, Turkey is most likely just blowing smoke. Too many guys like Solar Products in their midst they are trying to placate, but they are still a member of NATO and would probably like to remain one.

No, I'm not dropping that, these are innocent aid workers that want to deliver food and medicine for people who being oppressed by a the Israeli regime.

If the Turks follow through with what they are saying, then we will see them escort aid vessels from now on.

Bad Idea, the presence of Turkish navy will give Israel every reason to stand firm and hold their ground. And if a Turkish frigate is sunk in one of such stand offs, you can't really cry.

While my heart goes out for those people of Gaza, Turkey needs to adopt 'a more aggressive stand' against Hamas and not to forget Hezbollah..

Because they also want to highlight the inhumane siege on Gaza, which they have done successfully.

The "peaceful vessels" want to end the "blockade" only to bring weapons to attack Israel.

Typical Turkish imbecility , whenever they get in a position of power they to prove that their they biggest and the best . Things are even sweeter now since they sacked the army commanders that had a bit of a cool head . No wonder that Greece their neighbor maintains a strong army just in case . This is nothing but an unofficial war declaration .
