Hello Everyone, Today i realized big mistake that was done my me by purchasing ipage hosting account. As i purchased i got one free domain name and i have added my addon domains there . Now i when i tried to move out of ipage i couldn't able to figure out the addon domain at my original registrar. I have verified everything but i could able to figure out when i tried to discuss the same with ipage they are saying it was registered by ipage and they are holding the domain. How they can simple move domain without my permission??? Paul Kim: Sure. sri: I registered that domain at netfirms and i didn't authorized u people to transfer the domain why the hell it was showing ipage as register ? Paul Kim: I appreciate your patience. I am researching on the issue but I will return in 3-4 minutes with some more information. Paul Kim: I am unable to find the information when the request was made. sri: what u mean ? sri: can i ask u one serious question Paul Kim: Sure. sri: I registered that domain at netfirms and i didn't authorized u people to transfer the domain why the hell it was showing ipage as register ? Paul Kim: I appreciate your patience. I am researching on the issue but I will return in 3-4 minutes with some more information. Paul Kim: I am unable to find the information when the request was made. sri: what u mean ? Paul Kim: Thank you for your patience. I will be back with some more information in 3 to 4 minutes. Paul Kim: Thank you for your patience. I am still looking into your issue. Can you please hold for another 3 to 4 minutes? sri: k Paul Kim: Thank you for your patience. I am still looking into your issue. Can you please hold for another 3 to 4 minutes? sri: k Paul Kim: Thank you for holding. Paul Kim: IPage and Netfirmes are sister companies. The domain can be added to hosting account. If the registration service provider is netfirms You cannot manage the domain with ipage. Hence, we have changed the Registration Service Provider of the domain. Also, I have moved the domain to IPAGE account so that it will display the contents in that account. sri: Paul do u authorize to that ?? here u means ipage sri: Without my permission u can;t change registrar Paul Kim: I apologize for any inconvenience this has caused you. Paul Kim: Do you wish to move back to NetFirms? sri: First tell me do u authorize to do that Paul Kim: Yes, sri: can u show? Paul Kim: There is no notice about that. Code (markup):
iPage sucks! I have been with them. just i am curious, where are you moving to? I am looking for a cheap hosting provider do you know any? I prefer something with no contract or preferebly trial period! I have been told jerkhost is a decent one, close to what I have been looking for. $1.97/month for unlimited bandwidth ! No contract! 30 days trial
You apparently changed the entire registrar to iPage, instead of just changing your nameservers to point to your hosting account there. That was a HUGE mistake. You need to register with a big domain registrar, like GoDaddy or such, and then just point your nameservers to your host. This kind of stuff happens all the time, and many hosts will simply hold the domain hostage. What a shame.
Mate i m awake and i know what i did u can find the conversation with them... I hold domains on different registrars like name.com, namecheap.com godaddy & netfirms I never had a problem until ipage come into picture. Once things settled i ill make sure everything had been moved to godaddy Btw i have complained to ICANN Thank you for your report. We're sorry that you have experienced trouble with your domain registration. We have sent your problem report to ICANN, which will forward it to your registrar. We hope you will be able to resolve the matter to your satisfaction. ICANN will review your problem report and use it in establishing long-term registrar policy.
Well then how did it happen? If you are listed as the contacts for your domain, iPage can't transfer it without your approval. There should be no way they can change the registrar without going through the contacts for your domain. Can you venture a guess as to how they did it? Was it something you didn't see on the page when you signed up for iPage?
I assume NetFirms and iPage are managed by same team, not sure though. See the chat conversation:- "IPage and Netfirmes are sister companies. The domain can be added to hosting account. If the registration service provider is netfirms You cannot manage the domain with ipage. Hence, we have changed the Registration Service Provider of the domain. Also, I have moved the domain to IPAGE account so that it will display the contents in that account." If they are sister concern companies and the employee at iPage has an ability to login to Netfirms account and change the registrar info, it means they work together
Managed by the same team or not, your agreement for your domain was with NetFirms. They can't just go changing your registrar like that without your knowledge. I think going to ICANN was probably a good choice on this one. Their support sounds like they're from a different country and didn't even understand what you were asking.
Do you still have control of the domain? I would recommend asking for the EPP code and moving to another registrar far away from Ipage or netfirms. A lot of people have domain troubles with them when they try to leave. Best regards, -Matt
The internet is just a complex place. Its rather unfortunate you fell in their trap from both sides. If they are able to hold you domains from two separate website. I would have been suggesting you report the issue to ICANN but your claims are not verifiable.
I'm sorry to hear about your bad experience with them. It is a really bad practice on their part, I should say
