Im looking for someone who can do automotive art like this for t-shirts. I do a number of designs every year for different sites I own. Ive been looking around for a designer but either they are way too expensive or too busy or something. WTF?
Well real t-shirt designers that have any skills are snatched by fashion agencies . You'll have to get along with a normal graphics designer but in this industry what you pay for is what you get . Given the level imposed by the auto art (like the on you posted) you're gonna need to let a designer work for 1-2 days for each piece of art that is made from scratch . I'd say put a contract out with volume of art that you need and how often will you need more and see who comes . You could negotiate it down to 100 - 200 USD per design . The price is how low i'd be willing to go and it might be a bit higher simply because i was in the auto industry for a few good years . I wont say anything more since it will start to sound biased (i'm a designer myself so i can't be 100%) you can PM me for some free design counseling thou . Also i predict a wave of people screaming to give them the work under this post . Most will have hundreds of years experience and will do it for cheap , cheap , cheap
ApocalypseXL: Many may do it for "cheap , cheap , cheap", but that doesn't mean they'll do it right. joeychgo: What do you consider "way too expensive" for a price for the kind of advanced work you're asking for? Perhaps you haven't been willing to pay what many consider a fair price for their work - and thus the low response (especially if you want color seps as well)? I have owned and been a designer for a number of t-shirt printing companies. I know what goes into the design work, and what it's worth.
Ya but they still create a horrifying amount of junk that gets shoved and into websites and SEOed . This is why we have so much junk on the web this days .
Yes, but the fault lies primarily in those who hire the "artists" who "create" this stuff -- not the "artists" who take the crumbs they are offered (although they are culpable as well). If someone wants to only pay $5 for a "logo" (which most these things are not -- they're just graphics and text) , all you're doing is adding to the pile of online junk. To return to the OP's original request: You might want to try to find artists on oDesk.com.
Most customers don't know much about design and a lot of them don't want to clutter their head with useless stuff . It is the fault of the creature who creates junk for 1 USD a pop . How many clients know that a professional logo goes from 5k and more at any decent agency or freelancer ? Or that corporations don't even blink when they pay millions for a logo that they'll use for a few years . Or do you think that most small business owners know that the money they invest in well made publicity (design being a big part of it) will always return to at least 200% ?
You may want to try the New York or Atlanta craigslist for freelancing graphic designers... Good Luck.
I would try going into design sites such as deviantart, flickr groups, gomedia flickr group and such. You can find the talent that is not charging an arm and a leg.
