Anyone making $$$ from a Groupon "like" site.

HI,

I would like to hear from people who have a GROUPON type site - are you making money? sales?

I am looking to make one for my city (in canada) so im sure i wont be stealing your customers.

But I would like some advise?

- which script/site are you using?
- how are you getting the deals with companys? or are you using the GroupOn API?

 

I run these few year back.

My site get offer from big boy, I just sell it off as they offer me better price.

I code it myself with my few designer team.

During my time,not much competitor more easy to secure deal.

 

I wonder if there are free software or perhaps Wordpress themes that are "groupon"-like?

 

I love groupon like sites,but there are too many out there already,its hard to drive some traffic on a new site.at least in my country

 

Too much competitor out there for Groupon likely site.
In the previous day, mashable prove that Groupon is making profit .
But just because of strong competitor , their growth is going down.

 

Groupon business model is going down drain. Especially when items are sold so at 50% of more off retail prices, the retailers can hardly make profit. The assumption that retailers make loss in short term in exchange for repeat customers coming back in long term in not working. Most customers who flock to get these cheap 50% off deals are one time and bargain hunters who go for cheap deals. They are not repeat customers when retailers do not offer big discounts. So retailers are finding that it is not working and they are gradually backing off from working with such Groupon sites Groupon's financial numbers are also suspect and in light of market instability, all these is leading to Groupon delaying their much hyped IPO http://vator.tv/news/2011-09-07-groupon-to-delay-ipo-in-face-of-market-fluctuations

 

Groupon has a annual lose for 430 million $. Now for sure that there are sites that make a profit but a group on takes out your working time and spending up in the air ( you got to "make" the offers! ).
Have you considered making a classic coupon site?

 

i thought a groupon like site works on leads not sales. It will be hard to drive traffic to these types of sites as there is high competition but good try.

 

Groupon sites are just too many out there but all I can tell you is that IF you are able to drive traffic to your site then you will definitely start seeing results.

 

I think this niche is overcrowded by now.

 

Groupon is reportedly loosing $100 Million a month. Where is all of that $$ going?

 

I was thinking about doing the same thing. I am going to keep an eye on this thread
