"The best religion is the one from God." Is this not true? What is this joy you talk about? Are you implying I'm not happy? I feel like the happiest person on the face of this planet.
@IsraeI Very perceptive of you I must say.Well not wanting to get too personal,I have noticed how angry discussions about God make you. It's as if your faith brings you no peace. Therefore what is the point? Attraction rather than promotion will win your cause. You seem so angry and uptight that I don't want what you have.If this is what worshiping God has done for you, then I'll seek my God elsewhere. You are very negative and don't appear happy in even one of your posts.
@IsraeI Are you going to once again put me on your "ignore list"? It seems you didn't have me on there very long the 1st time.
Ah..so you have a duplicate account? Or perhaps you've had a name change? I don't recall putting you on ignore ever, have I ever said I did ? I do think it's a good idea.
@IsraeI Allow me to refresh your memory, please don't deny it.On a post yesterday you said you were putting me on your ignore list and would not be answering my posts. Then you quickly edited it out and now I can't bring it up to prove it.But....I don't wish to get into a silly argument about it because it really doesn't matter.
LOL. Where's that post? Oh I edited the post..how convenient of me. Seriously what a joke. In the past I put many on my ignore list for being trolls, your name was not one of them, so I'm starting to think you have a duplicate account, do you have a duplicate account?
@IsraeI I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and suggest because you were so busy fighting with everyone, that you just forgot. But I don't think I can deal with you,so go ahead and keep me on your ignore list. P.S. you have a real mean streak. You and I just met yesterday, this duplicate account stuff is just an attempt to defame.
No no no, I didn't "forget".. I simply did not say that..I mean it's a good idea, but I didn't say it, so please don't say I said something without giving no proof, don't do it. You complain how I debunk others and expose falsehood on this forum, but this is necessary, someone has to do it. Now please go away.
@IsraeI Are we children or mature adults? Let us get past this "ignore list" stuff and you trying to start something with this "duplicate account" crap.I'd prefer to eventually have interesting discussions with you rather than fighting about junk like this....what say you?
@IsraeI I'm not going to push my luck and test this new diplomatic side you are now just showing. So I'll call it a day and discuss philosophy with you at some point in the future.Philosophy is my cup of tea not religion.En autra foi mon amie, peu etre demain?........"In veritas in liberati"
@The Webby On this we will have to agree to disagree.Philosophy is the science of questions.Religion is the science of answers.Philosophers need to ask why, religious people seek to have those questions answered for them.Philosophy is freedom of thought, religion is about rules, regulations, borders, perimeters.Philosophy is courage, religion is a crutch to lean on. Philosophy is the study of truths and principals.Religion is a narrow version of a particular truth.
Err.. You are comparing philosophy with the religious practices of specific religions.. While I was talking about religion as the whole, the origin, the thought after religion, not the practices religion promote.. You are thinking about the narrow version of particular truth, while I was talking about that particular truth. Take Buddhism for example, it's a religion with deep embedded philosophy. I wonder, have you ever philosophically wondered - "How did religion 'actually' come into existence? Did it contribute in our progress as a society? Is religion good or bad? Why no matter where you go on earth, you will find people following some specific religion?".
@The Webby In my opinion the origins of religions are fear based. The very thought that this life is all we have is too horrible to contemplate. So we invent a loving caring, fatherlike figure who deeply concerns himself(itself etc.)about us.How about this.....a little boy with an ant farm? When one ant dies, the other takes it's place. Can this God possibly not even give a damn? That too would be a frightening thought. So we write holy books and say God said this or he said that,he loves us......Takes away our fears. Man invented religion to fulfill a deep desire,a need. Some men profit from this in different ways, worth keeping the thing going no? Frankly speaking I too am not immune to this fear.I want to believe in a benevolent creator. But instead of a chosen religion I am attempting to discover and communicate with, and understand this creator through philosophy.
It's not just about fear.. And religion is not about God.. it is about us.. As far as I understand, the most important goal was to create a common motto for the whole society. Religion created a common roof for everyone. The goal was to give everyone a common path to walk, to unite them in a society and regulate everyone. People automatically get along when they think alike. So it gave them a common line to think about, established a common idea in their minds. Of course it achieved it's goal by the means of fear, as well as promising rewards in afterlife/next life. Give them an ultimate super being who is watching over everyone, be good and he will reward you, but if you are being naughty he will punish you. Some wise men created the 'commandments' that everyone must follow. So pretty much everyone was on the same page. And if someone was not, he was an outcast. You will not fear another human being because you can judge his powers and capabilities and deduce that he is no stronger than you, but you will fear someone who you can't see or hear, whose power you can not judge, you were made to believe that he is the almighty that controls everything around, you sure will fear him. Whether the God cares about us or not? It wasn't even important.. God was just an idea.. like Santa Clause, like boogeyman. If you compare all the religions together, their practices may vary, their teaching may vary, but the modus operandi is the same. Another goal was to answer all unanswered questions. We question God today because we know a lot of stuffs now that we didn't know back them. That time our lack of knowledge left a huge list of unanswered questions. From simplest things like - 'what is night'. 'what exactly is sun', 'what is moon', 'what are those tiny stars' to more complex questions like 'why people die' 'How they are born' etc. Since we didn't have a means to explain anything, we used the Almighty God as the explanation for everything. And it worked, people were satisfied. Now they had the an answer for everything. I tend to think that religion was an important factor for our progress as a society. You see, when people with different ideologies meet, they can hardly get along. This very P&R forum is a burning example of that. Think what would have happened when everyone was left to his/her own ideas. You could have stolen, killed, do whatever you wanted.. Was it possible for us to trust each other and form a society? I think, it wasn't.. But religion provided that common trust, it introduced a basic regulation among masses. This is what I think, and a lot more.. Many people will reject it outright though.. They will refuse to believe that their particular religion is a man made.
@The Webby You are a philosopher,I say this because you are a free thinker. This is exactly what philosophy is about. It is deep thinking unencumbered by bias and prejudices.Religion in my view suppresses this.Saint Paul wrote in his letter to the Ephesians,"Too much knowledge is not a good thing".Those who deeply profess a certain religion develop an intolerance for opposing views while philosophy encourages healthy debate. This forum is often peppered with ugly name calling and character assassination. The intellect on here is high while the maturity level at times drops. It's been a pleasure Webby to have interacted with a free thinker.
