I've always found the reputation system is a good thing to use.

If you have the thankyou hack installed then you don't need rep but the rep system here is good so...

And incredibly annoying at times as well :)

I do agree with you though. It is very useful at times. I just hate recieving red rep; and its not even so much the red rep but the incredibly strange comments and personal attacks that come from them. As simple "that was inappropriate" would suffice. Oh well... back to the topic before this thread is hijacked into a redrep thread :p

The nice thing about the thank you hack however is that other users can see who said thank you as well.

    It's not that bad here.

    Example of bad:

On SitePoint, I was having a site design contest and one of the guys submitted an exact copy of a templatemonster.com template. So I called him on it in the thread and then reported the thread to the admins. Guess who gets banned? Yea, me. Because I called him on the scam in "public". Wow.
I didn't even bother making a new account, F sitepoint.

    This is interesting...

I recently got an infraction for "running up post count" or "post has no value" but yet the guy 2 posts above me wrote the same thing but he used "payment sent" instead of "email sent"

The guy on post #58 wrote the same thing I did, how come he didn't get an infraction? as well as post #70?

Further more, there are at least 4 other users on that thread that have similar posts with 3-4 words of the same meaning..

SO my question is how come they didnt get an infraction? A 2 word post is a 2 word post. RIGHT?

Generlly, its not the mods or admins work to verify a scammer that you accuse, Its also not good to expose a scammer as a scammer in open threads, if you have been scammed, you can very well post that in the thread that he has created to sell or buy products or give him a negative rating.,

It may be more of a question of "who gets caught" then :(

Well, I doubt the certain individual got one since his 2nd or 3rd post in that thread was still a similar 2 word "email sent" type of post.

I recently made 1 thread against Mods but later came to know every thing was fine.
    http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=160686
"Harassing a member of the forum" i dont know they got infractions or not in my thread, even i was reported in reverse but i dint got any infraction. Now in every thread they say because i made thread they are harassing me more and they increased post count in my thread till i req Mods to close.

DP became big market place with good sig link value on pr8 forum so few members are trying to make use of post count.Easy money they dont need to do any job if we manage huge posts in DP and if u have any service thread that will also get promoted.I hope admin will install VBmods and control spammers.

I think you just have to be cautious on not being scammed. Internet and real world are all the same. I only use those with references I trust. Money doesn't grow on trees. :)

We actually leave them in most cases. Only when we see the same guy/girl paste the same message (sometimes including the same spelling mistake) 20 times (I've seen them do it up to 350 times and I painstakingly removed all of them), that's when we go in and tick em all and trash them.

I deleted around 40 from one guy like that yesterday, maybe it was those you saw disappear. Ironically, after all that effort, he got banned for duplicate accounts by another mod anyway. Talking about being a waste of time in giving the guy a chance to correct his behaviour.

Anyway, Rob, Sarah and Shawn have spelled it out quite nicely already and I wholeheartedly agree. There's absolutely no incentive for us to go digging for trouble or to chase people we don't like. That would be a silly thing to do. All of us have quite busy and successful professional lives running simultaniously with our voluntary moderating efforts so we would be nuts to go nitpicking and waste our valuable time.

If you catch us making a mistake, just let us know and we'll be happy to correct it.

Erm... How do you know that they didn't get any infraction points? The main idea is that you should watch your posts, not those made by others. Seems like common sense to me.

    Regards, George

    Yes I know :)

In fact I could not cite any wrong action from any of the moderating team, they are here for help us and guide us if we are going wrong: that is the ultimate goal of those infractions that people keep complaining.

You are always complaning.. Sometimes members are troubling you, you then fight abt reds, then infraction and now you have problem with members having high post count and members having service related post.

Can you make a list of things are u have problems with, A final list plz!
