Hello PHPLD users, many of you add quality sites and educational sites manually by yourself or by someone to populate your directory. But dont you think its quite laborious? We have to add sites one by one whereas if we can add a bulk (suppose 9-10 sites to a single category) by some means to the sql database it will be a great help, isn't it? Any idea - sql experts? or PHPLD experts? BTW: I dont like spidering. It just shows the google search results or dmoz listings. Thank you for your time.
Am I missing something? Fast method to populate a directory? Time buddy.. Time. It takes TIME.... Years in fact. Want to take the easy way out, buy one that's already established and populated. Dumping another copy of SQL db into yet another directory just further devalues that directory and the sites in it.
Only thing I can suggest is time. We did not populate our directories with anything other that user submissions. I think doing anything less than that is really a discredit to those listing and other directory owners.
This might be one method http://www.phplinkdirectory.com/Google_Spreadsheets_Import_Export.php It's somewhat "beta" and we had to help a couple people getting it working in our forum, but works pretty nicely.
Assuming that you are talking about the data entry and not developing the listings themselves... Setting up a spreadsheet and using at least two windows doesn't take all that long. Use <alt><tab> and copy/paste and it goes quite fast if you can develop a rhythm. Particularly if you are only working on a category at a time and a handful of listings at a time.
Try this: http://www.softgalaxy.net/excel-mysql/ExcelMySQlConverterDemo.exe It'll convert your excel file to PHP file, then upload PHP file to your directory and run it. You are done
Register on numerous webmaster forums and submit in the directory announcement section you will see the increase in submission it iwill be difficult for you to maintain and review each site manually
Your welcome, and I noticed you sold one of your sites a while back on Flippa and did quite well. Congratulations on that.
