Where do I start online freelancing?

I can do a bit of graphic design and maybe try some article writing. What is a good site to start freelancing? Also does it cost money to join these kind of sites? Many thanks. ;)

One of your best bets for starting out will be Fiverr. Take a look at the website in my sig, I write all about freelancing and how to make money online, it will give you a good guide and start you off.

    Thanks!

Try freelancer.com or odesk.com They are the widely used ones, there may be others if you search online for freelancing sites.

I would suggest joining Fiverr, FlipperJob, and GigBucks so you can build up a portfolio.

Forums that you may already be a member, and have some credibility established, in a "service offered by member section". As others already mentioned, Fiverr is also a great spot to start, build clients, establish a customer base, build up testimonies / rating for quality/performance, and grow your biz...

Guru.com, elance.com, odesk and other sites are good. You need to work hard to establish yourself, once you have good feedback, then it is easy to get orders. Now-a-days fiverr and fiverr like sites are also a good way to sell your services.
Fiverr like sites have less competition, posting your services is free.

there's lots of sites like freelancer.com where you can advertise your services and have people bid on them. ebay even has a section for this. you should probably get your own website though.

I would recommend to start to promote your service on forums like DP, because it is for free and you will have time for practice and chance to gain experience then you can move on freelancer(dot)com or odesk(dot)com as it is for more advanced projects, needs some experience to really deliver good service and so on. But as the new service provider you will get more negative feedbacks there as most people care about quality but IMHO you can't deliver quality without experience

There are many different ways to get your hand on the online freelancing business.
You could start your trip via launching a new site and sell banner ads or reviews or links on this site.
You could browse through forums like Digital Point to look for jobs advertised by webmasters who are looking for freelance writers or photographic designer, or website designer, etc.
You could simply register with freelancing platform and post ads to promote yourself. You could bid for jobs or wait for advertisers to contant you concerning job offer.
And I believe there must be more options in the field.
Check them out and find one that suit yourself, mate.

You can start building your public profile using LinkedIN, you can post your services in there too. Then try on some freelancing sites.
