That's not against the rules, so why would you get an infraction for that?

Anyway, back to the OP's concern.

We don't normally issue infractions or delete posts when the user has been around for a while.

It's normally just when the user is blatantly trying to increase his/her post count.

If you (for example) where to make some "welcome to DP" posts, we wouldn't mind.

I dunno. I claimed I was scammed. I got an infraction for exposing the scammer in the form of starting threads to abuse members.

The scammer addmited the transgression by issuing the refund.

How we got to the question you asked is beyond me and can only be answered by your staff.

I did the other members a service as far as I was concerned and would do it again in similar circumstances.

Actually, you got an infraction for harassing a member of the forum. If you got an infraction for exposing a scammer, the infraction reason would say "Exposing A Scammer".

My opinion on everything else is irrelevant (my opinion on if you were or were not scammed for example). Opinions are subjective, and trying a manage a forum of this size based on subjective opinions would just not work in the big picture of things.

Personally, I do believe you were probably scammed... that doesn't change the fact you choose to use this forum as an avenue to harass another member.

I also don't fault you if you did it again... I probably would have done the same. But... what if every user started a thread about how someone in their life scammed them. We would have 45,000+ threads about topics that really bring no real value, and only being an overall tone of negativity.

This forum is run with the big picture in mind... An infraction given for harassing another member is given to try and curb that activity, that's all. There are no favorites here, in fact I've given infractions to mods before.

Well this is by far the least censored or suppressed webmaster board, other than wickedfire which doesn't have nearly the same amount of traffic.

I've received only one infraction so far that I think wasn't warranted, for this post. The infraction states "bumping thread", that was not the intent of my post.

Don't you think that when he checked his email and your message came in that he might have put two and two together and figured out that he "had mail?"

You're right though. Things are are quite lax. There are probably times I should have got an infraction and did not. So those times when I got one, (even if I thought I should not have) It's not a big deal.

I think of infractions like speeding. I speed all the time. I just don't always get a ticket every time I speed.

Humm, with the timing, I guess I was confused. I can only think of one moron that I may have harrassed. That might happen again too.

But, and seriously, thanks for the perspective. It was a big help. :)

I know I am sort of behind with this thread as I just noticed it. But here is a suggestion to help out with the short "thank you", or "good information" replies.

    http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=122944

^^ Is a "thank you" hack for vbulletin. At the bottom of the forum, it includes an area where people can click a button and say "Thanks".

Pretty cool hack IMHO and is useful; especially in this situation

Now all we need is a "PM sent" and a "Welcome to DP" hack and we will get rid of tons of junk posted daily

What we really need is a "Not this shit again" hack/button.

I got an infraction because I reacted to some arsehole that called me a terrorist.

Other than that this place seems to be modded very well.
