Look, we didn't go into the oil business. We could have, no one told us we couldn't but we haven't. That's not fault of the oil companies.

Oil companies should have the right to produce as much oil as they wish. Adjusting production should not be called price gouging. Producing less oil will lead to higher prices but that is their right as a private business.

Come on, lets not fall to the low of conservatives and suggest everyone with opposing ideas smokes mindaltering drugs.

As a business, oil companies can choose how much they want to produce, just as Kraft can choose how many cheese slices it wants to produce.

First off you said that the President had no control of oil prices, now you are saying that Exxon and BP can slow production to get prices up!

Do you think an invasion of Iraq could slow production down and increase prices, who made the decision to invade Iraq for the USA and the UK ?

    We wait for your answer!

The only control he has is artificial at the moment, and that would include releasing reserves.

The invasion of Iraq did not slow production. OPEC chose to cut production.

And Nixon's corpse requires daily sacrifices of oil to keep it from rising and taking over the world.

The reaction is understandable. But I think the thread was made with a good intention.

But mayby the Brits would be more successfull if they went for a change in their own regime that acts like a puppet for US right now. The war in Iraq, the war on privacy, the support for Israeli interest under the Lebanon war is just a few examples on that.

For example, if Britain changed their attitudes to US and pulled back it troops from Iraq, the war would cost more for US and they would eventually be forced to retreat faster. The british people could get more privacy(since the country may become more secure from terrorist attacks after the withdrawal and the end of Israel-war-support and therefore can improve the privacy to a moderate level). The British economy could also get stronger since they don't have to pay the war anymore.

And the support for Bush would certainly drop when America will be forced to withdraw for economical reasons which could change the president.
