    Hi Folks,

I have just completed my first directory. This unfortunately may not be of much use to many of you as it is a directory set up to be a completely Scottish directory with all links to be related to Scotland.

I would really appreciate your comments though as it is my first directory and if you want to have another category created either PM me or use the form on the directory itself.

This directory is completely free and I add links to it myself when I can. I started it in response to the fact that DMOZ is not that good in the subject that the directory is on and I just want to create a directory that people searching for all things Scottish may have some use in.

You will find the directory at Scottish Directory

I have nothing to do w. Scotland, but took a look. I dont know about the registration. Its typically a pain in the a$$. Very rarely will I spend the time to deal, unless I want to buy something.

The directory itself looked good. I noticed there was no telecom category. Maybe lose the "report a dead link"...maybe a waste of space?

Nowhere near an expert----but those are my 2 cents. Good luck....

Thanks ROAR for taking the time out to have a look.

I appreciate what you are saying about the registration thing. The reason I have it is two fold. It usually means that people that are more inclined to be serious about submissions and that they can trace and amend their links. I am allowing up to 5 links for each site so the management of that I feel requires some registration on the part of the submitter. A person actually surfing the directory can suggest a site but never needs to register to surf or suggest a site.

The report dead link page was just a kind of bug bear of mine in certain directories. If I am using a directory to look for something and I come across a link that isn't working I like to help the directory owner by pointing it out. This also saves the directory owner from having to check every link constantly.

I have put a telecommunications category into Science now.

Thank you for bothering to look and points well raised. I will keep them in mind and if they do become a problem I will sort them out.

    Thanks agian for your input.

    Hi there,

Just a update to this directory.

    1. Registration no longer required.
    2. Still free
    3. Just gained a PR 2 so getting somewhere.
    4. You don't have to be a Scottish site to get listed just have some Scottish content. E.g. If you have a worldwide travel site you just need to link direct to your Scottish page (deep link). Have a directory with a Scottish category? Then link Direct to this category and that is perfectly acceptable.
    5. Up to 5 links (deep links and different pages) accepted for all sites as long as all the pages conform to submission guidelines.
    6. SEO Friendly (All links followed, free, anchor text of your choice, deep links, etc.)

Any comments that could help me take my directory forward will be greatly received. I do not really want this directory to make me money I have started it to get a niche directory that was very under-represented in DMOZ etc.
