The prices of oil are set on global markets based on supply and demand. They cannot be manipulated by governments, but they can be manipulated by how much oil makes it to market or how much someone is willing to pay.

In your opinion, did world record oil prices have anything to do with Ford and GM closing plants and the loss of millions of support jobs that go along with the loss of over 60,000 of our highest paying manufacturing jobs?

The price of oil is set on many world markets across the world. Anyone can participate in the buying and selling on these markets, and anyone can affect the prices through buying and selling. It is a FREE MARKET.

Oil prices went up because supply couldn't meet demand. Prices go up as a result of high demand and eventually weeds out the lower bidders.

Yes, the high oil prices did hurt GM and Ford, but that's because they were too damn busy building large SUVs that have higher profit margins. All fine and dandy until these products go out of favor because of free market economics.
