The charges accused Siegelman and his former chief of staff of helping Tuscaloosa physician Phillip Bobo rig bids. Shall I go on?

    The death if Habeas Corpus R.I.P. (1215 - 2006).

Convieniently for the republicans, the law which in effect suspends Habeas Corpus was passed on the same day the 'foley scandal' was leaked.

I don't know why American citizens let their politicians get away with passing such laws.

P.S. MRMOJO - Ive written your response here for you to copy and paste:

Why don't you post a thread and the people who have some contribution to make will respond.

Its pretty simple. Hopefully you wont get any idiots that dont know what they are talking about but will still try and look like they have something to offer.

What exactly does the Military Commissions Act have to do with Habeas Corpus?

Did you even bother to ready the act? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military_Commissions_Act_of_2006

Really? Are you sure there? It was passed when? The bill was introduced on September 22, 2006 and signed into law by President Bush on October 17, 2006. It passed the senate on September 28th and the House on the 27th of that same month. When was the "Foley scandal" "leaked" as you call it? What are you trying to say? That Bush just created the legislation the day the news about Foley broke? Talk about conspiracy theories.... If this ain't a moonbat perspective on reality, I don't know what is.

Well, actually they do not. They (we) elect officials to represent us in office. If they do something we do not like, we don't vote for them again. If they do, we keep voting for them.

Now the Military Commissions Act you are referring to here, was passed by both house of congress. You can learn more about the process from start to finish here: http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c109:S.+3930:

You can learn more about the facts of the Military Commissions Act here: http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2006/10/20061017.html

    In the Senate:

"On a 65-34 vote, with 12 Democrats joining, the Senate passed S 3930 Thursday night after 10 hours of debate. The bill is identical to the House version passed earlier, meaning no conference committee parley will be needed.

Democrats in favor (12) - Carper (DE), Johnson (SD), Landrieu (LA), Lautenberg (NJ), Lieberman (CT), Menendez (NJ), Nelson (FK), Nelson (NE), Pryor (AR), Rockefeller (WV), Salazar (CO), Stabenow (MI). "

In the House.... 34 Democrats (16%) voted "yes." for the bill.

A lot of Democrats voted for this bill, in both houses. So it did not come down to a 100% partisan issue.

If you actually bothered to read the bill, and the current law, you would never have posted the drivel you most likely got 3rd party from some moonbat hell bent on twisting the truth.

I feel sorry for people who fall prey to this type of mindless brain washing. It must suck to always be a follower. It must be really nerve racking not having the ability to think and reason for yourself. I would hate having to rely on others telling me what my opinion is.

Try thinking for yourself for once. Its' quite liberating.

Habeas Corpus in short is the right to seek release from unlawful imprisonment. This right allows detainees to be brought to a common law court so it can be determined whether or not that person is imprisoned lawfully and whether or not he or she should be released from custody.

The Military Commissions act removes this common law right for any non-us citizen that the government deems to be an "unlawful enemy combatant engaged in hostilities or having supported hostilities against the United States".

Military Commissions Act of 2006 is, without doubt, a suspension of Habeas Corpus:

    From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Habeas_corpus:

On 29 September 2006, the U.S. House and Senate approved the Military Commissions Act of 2006, a bill which would suspend habeas corpus for any alien (noncitizen) determined to be an "unlawful enemy combatant engaged in hostilities or having supported hostilities against the United States"[2][3] by a vote of 65-34. (This was the result on the bill to approve the military trials for detainees; an amendment to remove the suspension of habeas corpus failed 48-51.[4]) President Bush signed the Military Commissons Act of 2006 into law on October 17, 2006.

Your Government can hold people prison without the right to a fair trial. It has held people in prison for years who have not been deemed guilty or innocent. This is what your government does. I could travel to america and they could imprison me for weeks, months, years, if they had any suspicions about me.

The only reason this law was passed was so the bush clan can get away with what they have done at Gitmo. The prisonors will be held to trial in fake courts (military commissons) and most of them will be released.

I meant the senate approved the bill on the 29th, foley scandal came to the media attention on 28th or 29th. The passing of the bill on the 29th would have been the main political story of that day if it wasn't for the foley thing. It is already known that a few top republicans were aware of this looming scandal.

Sure it could be a coincidence that these dates match, this is very possible. But it is a common tactic for politicians to bury certain controversial news stories by announcing or leaking other news stories as a diversion - this is politics. Its naive not to question the timing.

Questioning everything your Government does is what a healthy and functioning democracy needs.

    They do pass the laws.

I hope Nov. 7th sends the right message to them.

I am not subject to any brainwashing, I do not swallow what your President says.

He dressed up the Military Commissions act with lots of claims about it giving justice to the victims of 9/11 when it actually has no link to justice for the people that died on that day. What sort of justice is it to remove peoples right to a fair trial?

I would suggest you try thinking a little harder about the military commissions act and wether you think its good to treat people in a way that removes their FREEDOM.

There are probably that many repulicans involved in the Jack Abramoff scandal alone. (and a few democrats too) And I'm only talking about at the federal and state level. You've included people all the way down to local politics. If we tried to construct a list of all dirty republicans and democrats at all levels it would surely take down DP's servers.

    Congressman Bob Ney pleads guilty:

It's also a scandal that went all the way to the top of republican leadership, forcing House Majority Leader, DeLay to resign.

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/09/28/AR2005092800270.html
    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/12/30/AR2005123001480.html

I don't think republicans are inherently anymore corrupt. But absolute power corrupts absolutely, and that's what we've seen during the last six years.

    Re-read that 10 times.

Just think if we could have done that pre-9/11... Re-read that 10 times.

Get away with what? You mean suspending US Citizen's rights to terrorists? Last I heard, these people never had those rights to begin with, so nothing has been taken away from them.

Gee, that's odd.. I seem to remember first hearing about Foley on the 10th of October. I'm still not sure what strange conclusion you are trying to draw here.

As to Foley.... Whooopie... He talked to a page. Gerry Studds admitting ass raping a child back in 73'. He did it, continued working, never apologized and never resigned. Oh, did I mention he was a democrat?

    What's your point?

Ah, well they do not. Not even close.

Yep, Bush is some how capable of burying reports about passing the Military Commissions Act, just so he can let a damaging Republican scandal take center stage. You kill me... You're a funny guy.

There is a difference between "questioning" and altering reality to fit the needs of the moonbat agenda.

It will. You'll no doubt question the results and scream at diebold.

It's already cleane; devoid of any original thought.

Read the bill, I provided you with links to an unaltered version devoid of moonbat propaganda and liberal suggestion. Read it, (10 times at least). I think you will find it makes perfect sense and does nothing to deny any American citizen their rights.

Whose freedom are we referring to again? I was not aware that terrorists or enemy combatants where granted the same rights as law abiding citizens of the US.

You might want to take some time away from DP and actually read the act. If you need help, I can recommend several remedial reading courses that might help.

I havent bothered reading everything but your government has made it legal to imprison people without trial or any common law legal recourse.

You can say something about BUT THEY ARE TERRORISTS.

In your mind its ok to remove peoples freedoms because they are criminals? What happened to innocent until proven guilty?

Is this the American way? I thought America was formed on justice and liberty.

But you are bothered to make judgement?

They are called enemy combatants. That's who it targets, that's who it's gone after and unless you are working to bring harm to our country, there is no worry. In our country, we don't coddle terrorists.

Yes, I want to remove the freedom of terrorists to complete their operations. Of course, if "being kind to terrorists" is your bag of tea, move to the UK. Or wait till Democrats are in office again.

So you admit you are completely ignorant to the facts. How can you tell me you have not read the law, and then in the same breath make such an ignorant statement?

    ?

What "freedoms" are you referring to? Someone who comes to the US and is not a US citizen and attempts to blow up a building is not protected under the same laws as a US citizen.

Show me specifcally what "Freedoms" these people had that are being removed? Please cite a source... Wait, you don't do that. You just make blanket statements, admit your ignorance and go on saying things that have no basis in fact.

It is. Read the law like I asked. America does not just rush to judgment, remove heads and worry about the truth later. In America we actually give more rights to illegal aliens than we do to our own citizens. That IS and has been the "problem" in America. Try educating yourself on the subject instead of relying on opinions that have been provided to you.

    Read the bill/law.
