Global finance crisis is looming and most IT companies getting tight in spending for new technology. As you know it Microsoft charge a lot of money for their new products such as MSSQL 2008 Servers and evens the VSStudio 2010 make pain in the wallets. At the same time i saw PHP 5 is getting smarter with its OOP support. So who will win in the future market ? PHP 5 or .NET 4.0 ? My personal believe is that people will look for open source like php 5 to run their business and keep the money on their pocket. What you guys think ?
None of both platforms will disappear soon. As for each major versions of each platforms, they might come with some changes that will break your code.Performance wise, ASP.NET is faster than PHP because of the typing scheme and other languages choices (this is discussed in a SO Podcast but I can't seem to find the link). But you also need to consider that PHP is less costly to paralilize than ASP.NET. You do not need to purchase software licenses for each and every single serve. PHP has a bad reputation security-wise and I can understand why. There are a lot of students and hobbyists who started coding in PHP and have absolutely no idea of what code security means. Please remember that this affects their code, not yours. Also, if you choose PHP, be careful when choosing third-party documentation. A lot of them a written without any consideration for code security and their examples are riddled with security issues
Big companies, think fortune 500, are not going to buy into open source software (normally speaking). There are big companies, though, think Facebook, that do. Personally, I am biased in favor of PHP, but it's probably best to learn both.
I've given up on M$ products a long time ago. Well, everything except windows, which still has a better UI than most linux distros. I totally agree with keeping the money in your own pocket and using open source components.
Yeah. Windows desktops are far better than Linux desktops. Like this one and this one. Yeah. Linux desktops suck.
Windows servers are cool because you can run apps off of them. But I prefer php - open source, cheap and easy to develop on.
Which means you think non-Windows servers can't run apps? Are DP posters really that dumb? (Yes, I think they are, but I won't say that here.)
How is your response related to either? Think for once, won't you? And spamming implies I have something to sell. I have nothing to sell.
The largest companies have already "bought into" OSS. Who do you think is supporting (and improving) Linux? A few guys working in their bedrooms?
