I saw on seomoz the other day that marketing pilgrim had a 6,000$ (in prizes of course...) scholarship they were throwing out there for the best SEO article... Well given that the prizes were nice (Even though I don't think I'd ever use all the SEO books they're trying to throw my way). I figured I'd enter... of course my competitive streak had nothing to do with it For the first part of the contest winners are announced by unique views of the article (i would normally even repost the article here but I promised to a non reprint agreement). So here is my article, read it over, comment on it, tell me I'm going to lose, whatever. The Golden Rule of SEO thanks for the help DP'ers
Very nice article, but you left out off page optimization factor. It's essential for any type of competition now a days.
Yes there were a lot more that I wanted in the article, but there was this cursed 1000 word limit... And when I first finished my article I had over 1450 words... So some things had to go. It used to have some page optimization, some keyword density... A couple of other things... Thanks for the input
I just have a read. Very nice article. One thing I personally feel is offpage optimization is one of the most important factor in ranking high. Because most of the techniques involved in SEO are more creatively implemented in Offpage Optimization. Well, GoodLuck. Let us know when you win the prize
Yes, if i were to write a follow up it would have to deal with that (and probably be called "everything you need to know about SEO you learned while hitting on girls at a bar" or something ) Thanks for the review (this also gives me good ideas for if i ever write more articles)
If last week is any indication of competition, winning this week will be tough. Week 1 won with 385 unique views, week 2 with 108 unique views, and with week 3 I actually lost by 3 unique visits with 630. Such a bad beat There where even people doing PPC for their articles. Makes me happy I beat them all but one
Well I am not going to use PPC to push an article (sorry just not interested in winning that way)... I'll hopefully get a couple of votes here and there.. We'll see how it works out though But that's why I posted this little post over here, hopefully DP can help me. Any other ways you suggest for getting my article out there that worked well for you? Thanks for the info Jeremy, it's nice to hear from another contestant on the subject. And which article was yours (i read all of the previous weeks to get a feel for the type of article and whatnots).
Haha the url is on the "banned submit list" for Digg... That's funny i guess... I'll start working my way around to the other main ones after my class today I suppose.
Now I guess is the marketing part of the article... I've added it to my signatures and submitted it to reddit, furl, and stumbleupon. Any other suggestions (as you can see digg is out) that is good for an article on SEO to get some uniques. Thanks for the help DP'ers.
WoW it's banned? That must be in direct relation to all of these people pumping their sites. I was able to submit mine last week. My article was "Most SEOs are Virgins" Submit to dzone.com. That got me over 200 visits in a day. Oh trust me, it is a problem. It is not as easy as you think pumping over 600 unique visitors to a single page with no ramp time in only 7 days. At least if you stick to white hat and free techniques. And people on Andy's site don't seem to digg to often from what I've seen. Now if you already have a loyal following willing to do your bidding, that may be another story.
Thanks for the info. I just submitted it to dzone so hopefully that works out well. Also funny thing is, I read your article when I was writing mine. Just seeing what some of the other topics were and your title was awesome. How many uniques did you end up getting? Thanks again for the help.
I was the winner on that week. So glad I picked the second week to submit, I would've gotten crushed any other week. Hoping to pick up a lot of "merit points" in the final round, but who knows. Lots of talented writers in the running.
That means we may be competition I'd have to agree... If I had known about this earlier it would have been nice to post in a lower scoring week. If it jumped from 100 to 600 uniques then this week can be very large.. But it's all for fun so no sense not trying to win at least And nice article btw, I made sure to read all the previous weeks winners.
article is very good. They are many social bookmark sites other then digg u can submit to all of them.
