HI I am professional SEO and web marketing specialist. I was doing web directory submissions on regular basis for my client sites. Since some months, i noticed that google is not picking any back link from directory listings. This may be due to the paid links in directories but I am still confused about that. Have you guys any opinion about this. Is web directory listing has still worth for google or not Kashif
Hi, Directories and Search Engines are twin, Google is not picking any back link, the quality and the useful links which support information to the users are the one to be notice. No doubt Web directories will be always together with search engines.
If you get quality directories it is worth something and SE will pick up the links. I had a couple of sites that I submitted to just all free directories and Nothing.. Waste of time. Now, I only submit to quality directories that have a reasonable price and google will pick up the links from quality directories. I own a directory that gets steady traffic and SEs pull up listings from keyword searches so they are worth something.
Google is very cautious while giving credit of backlinks... If your are getting backlinks from junk directories or irrelevant directories, Google may devalue it. Other case, You are using Google webmaster tools to check your backlinks... this is why you are not seeing all your backlinks. Google deliberately hide your backlinks in Google webmaster tools. Otherwise, Directory submission is still very important and Google counts it, in fact every search engine scans its respective directory before displaying results to the user.
I guess the bigger question I have is what directories are you submitting to? Could you list them here or PM them?
You should pinpoint which directories are the quality ones and which aren't and only submit to the ones that show up in Google for your clients. The ones that aren't showing up may not be worth it and/or are garbage. Also, avoid free directories if that's what you're doing.
Google algorithm has been updated and the new strategy shows very less result success of directory submission. Therefore, i recommend you not to much rely on this tactic any more.
First submit the site to Main category, next make sure that your site is approved in the directory. Getting home page links will boost your ranking, else there is no value in submitting to N number of directories.
Yes, C.Rebecca hit the nail on the head. AND... that's interesting news, rising_sun. Anyway, I've gotten burned before on some crap listing sites. It's frustrating.
Hi All I have found this forum very helpful, I own a business directory and always interested in the google logic but am having to rely on natural traffic at the moment as am scared of affecting my rankings. Thanks Peter
in my case i submit my blog to any web directory because according to some other tips it could boost your ranking
Of-course web directory still works. But i don't understand why you have facing this types of problem? Try to make back link on bookmarking site and wait some days for getting the good result.
Most of the paid directories have annual charges... So it better to go for them or for related free directories..?? I have also heard that now the effort is not worth the results but then how to maximize the benefits or one should scrap them altogether
I suspect Google has simply gotten smarter about directories. If the the Musicians category also includes sites for insurance, hotels, Indian florists, SEO firms and a bunch of other non-music related sites, it would seem that Google's algorithm would be able to pick up the directory is junk. Submission to quality directories, free or paid, is still a viable SEO tactic. The primary problem is that it is getting harder and harder to find well-run directories worth the time to submit to.
It is right. after web 2.0 revolution google focus more on blogs and social media. Normally people do not use web directories to find the website. They use search engine to find a site and business listing site to find the business in local area. Directories are just an alternate of search engines that's why search engines are not considering them a valuable stuff for users.
The worth of submitting your links in directories is never out of fashion. No matter what Google says about its policy of decreasing the link value from directories submission. You would still want your link to be placed at different sites across the web. Simply put, the more links you have across the web the more chances of visitors coming to your site.
