I signed up for there dedicated server a few days ago at a cost of 40 odd pounds per month, and had my first opportunity today to explore the service. I needed to re-install the operating system, but it would not re-install. I got several messages to my email account saying the server was defective. I signed up there support forum only to find that i cannot post a question. So i went to the service manager and put in a support ticket. Here is a copy of what i wrote:Have been trying to re-install the os but after about 5 attempts all i get is errors. Either it fails at stage 3 rebooting or at stage 6 rebooting or stage 7 where it says too many ports are open. I want to install either centos 5.5 or later, basic or ubuntu 11.04 basic, but it just won't let me.I received no reply, so posted again this time asking for a refund.I received no reply, so i posted yet again asking them to cancel my server.I received no reply, so i clicked on their 'Notify the manager' link.I received a reply. It said "Re-install the operating system"How ignorant can you get? I have been trying all day to re-install the operating system and all it say's is error rebooting or too many ports are open. The mark of a good hosting company is the efficiency of it's support system, and OVH have only shown ignorance.I will NEVER use this cheating company again.

    @Spectre17

I'm sad to hear that you had such a bad experience with OVH. If you were one of our customers we could have helped you out.
Unfortunately you went through OVH directly so we can't do much for you.
My suggestion for you is to be a little more patient. OVH has a perfect monitoring system which will detect faults during an OS install.
Please verifiy that server monitoring is enabled in your manager account. You'll automatically receive an e-mail that an intervention has been scheduled
on your server. This can take up to 24 hours depending on the SLA you have got.

If you are in fact one of our customers do not hesitate to contact our support department.

Well it's ok for you to say that but look at it from my point of view, i don't know anything about the company, they were recommended to me by someone who i know through a forum. I gave them my money via card and got a faulty server. I was not permitted to get help through their forum as it would not allow me to post, i could not get any answer from support. I got an automated response saying they had resolved my problem and closed my support ticket when in fact they hadn't solved anything. I got this auto response three times.
When i finally heard from a 'manager' all he told me was to re-install the OS, but that was exactly my problem, it would not re-install the OS.
So the bottom line is, i've seen my money go, my time go, and no support system.
So what happens next time i get a problem?
All it seems to me is that OVH is an internet scam.

They don't scam people. In fact as individual you have the right for a refund if it is within 2 weeks. This doesn't apply to companies though.
All servers at OVH are unmanaged, but of course when you experience hardware / network issues this should be resolved by them.

Thing with OVH is, they have over 100.000+ dedicated servers alone, not even the servers counted which are used for web-hosting, virtualization, co-location...
But they only have a handful of people working inside their facilities. So what you need to do is be really clear and don't get mad. Every time you respond to a ticket you'll be put back in line waiting. So be patient it may take up to 24 hours on certain days.

The issue you have got is not so complicated to fix.. as you are not one of our customers I can't do much for you. But just work with OVH and it'll be resolved. And if you don't like waiting just reinstall the OS a couple of times in a row during the day. Their monitoring system will detect it and you'll receive an e-mail telling you that an intervention has been scheduled.. now all you have to do is wait - be patient!

And are you sure you have contacted the correct department? To contact the technicians working inside the facilities go here:
Contact our Support -> Incident -> Submit an incident ticket

Interesting response, but how could they get so big if their support system is so bad?
Think about it....You're eager to work on setting up your server to host your sites, you come across a problem, you sit back patient and wait up to 24 hours, then the response they give you does not address the problem so you wait another 24 hours?
What i mean is when i finally got a response from one of the managers he told me to do exactly what i had been trying to do without success. If i could do what he told me to do i wouldn't have contacted him in the first place.
Anyway, i did get one response today and i then re-installed centos. At the moment it seems to be working alright but my confidence is shattered. I neetd to know that my server will work and when it doesn't i need to know there is a support team, because what i've experienced so far is the worse support of any hosting company, and i must have been with many over the years.
Not sure what to do now, stay with them or move on? It's the fact that they shattered my confidence in them, i don't think it's the correct way to impress new customers.
    Thanks for your answer though.

OVH doesn't mind really, they have enough customers. One more or less doesn't matter to them. But what you do have to realize is that OVH is a budget hoster.
And that means they have to save on costs somewhere.. but in return you get one of the best control panels in the world with a lot of nice features all for free.
And of course a cheap ass server with great performance.
Thing is if you know what you are doing you don't really have to deal with their technical support unless an hard disk has to be replaced because it's faulty or something like that.
I have been working with OVH for over 4 years now, so I know how to get things done. But I can see that the response times are much slower these days. About one year ago when an intervention was scheduled a technician would start working on your server within 15min. Right now it takes around 1-3 hours..

Same for order processing normally it takes only 1 hour. Right now it's at 3-8 hours even when they have enough stock. I have had servers that should have been ready within 72 hours, but needed 10 days before they got deployed. And it probably won't get much better because they have plans to expand, in 2022 they are hoping to provides their services globally. So time will tell :)

This is the problem, the fact that they don't seem to care about anyone as a customer is what is putting me off this company. I would like to know how you would have solved the problem though? You see all i have to control the server is the web based manager, so when it repeatedly refused to re-install the OS i cannot understand how you could have solved that issue without contacting support? On the positive side, i was impressed that instead of 7 days set up, the server was set up in two, but then when it proved to be defective that was hardly a bonus.Your opening line 'OVH doesn't mind really, they have enough customers. One more or less doesn't matter to them.' is exactly what is felt from this company, and no one likes to deal with a company that doesn't give a damn about it's customers. I was thinking of staying with them now that it's finally working, to see if i can get over this and move on, but as you have now spelled out what is obvious, you've helped me make up my mind to leave.
