I have a small Pond on my Farm - I use a low caliber rifle to shot poisons snakes when they show themselves.

I like that. Tell me, what did you have to do in order to own it? (background check, registration, waiting period etc)

Or were you given it by a friend/family member?

Why don't you call animal rescue to capture the snakes? Do you know that venomous snakes are too valuable to kill.. One snake can save 10s or 100s human lives?
I expect illiterate, uneducated morons in India to do that, I thought you were better than them.

That mate, is not only cruelty against animal, but disregard for life as well.. And then you call weapons for self defense militancy?

    when they show themselves.

    We have an understanding.

I also am in an alliance with the Frogs. You are an Atheist and have no recourse for your opinion.

BRUm, it is a pump-22 cal. just love shooting it but dare not use it for any other reason than the P Snakes - especially after their assault on the Spaniel - it is a Spring fed Pond for swimming as well.

The local hardware store was robbed and the returned riffles were put on sale as is - just gave them the $95.00 and drove off. Also have a 9MM Mouser (rifle) in house for your purposes - need a shotgun for "Home Intruder". I threw my pistol into the well.

Wow $95, that's a deal and a half! I don't know what the Spaniel assault is, I'll have to look it up. I hope it's not the feds causing trouble...

Like the idea of a shotgun for home intruders, would love to have one myself. I have to get a decent amount of land and have a police chief come around to assess my mental state and "viable reason" to have one, only then will I qualify for an FAC - Firearms Certificate. I'd be limited on the amount of ammunition, too. No idea how this could even be conceived as just; if Big Bro' deems me fit to own a shotgun, what difference does having ten or a thousand cartridges make?

How come you threw your pistols away?

If you don't mind me asking, which state do you reside in?

That's such a shallow reply mate. When they show themselves, you could call Animal rescue to have them captured. Their venom can be used to make anti venom that will save many snake bite victim's lives.

Just out of curiosity, which deadly venomous snakes are found in your farm?

What does that suppos to mean? You need to fear an imaginary skyman in order to value life?
Whats your recourse for your ignorant actions?

I think he probably meant that the snakes attacked his Spaniel (A breed of dogs)

Oh! Haha yeah I know the dog Spaniel. The word "assault" threw me :D

I thought he meant he was afraid to fire off his gun more publicly for fear of reprisal from the feds. I was thinking of a Ruby Ridge scenario. My imagination, eh? :p

I really believe the Water Moccasins have caught on. A few may be tolerable.?

I left them alone once and the next thing I knew they bit the dog, no reason given. Not good for Children either. Initially it was hard to shoot them but not any more.

Webby, it is knowing which snake bit you is the problem - There is no shortage of Moccasin anti venom and in Florida they would laugh their asses off if you called to have them "rescued" from a pond.

Our Congregation welcomes whatever may stride down the road....even paperless popotalks.

Who will laugh their asses off? Although north American Cottonmouth is not an endangered species, I don't agree that killing them is the best way..

Ok, I agree it is not the best solution....what about all the innocent Frogs taken out by the Cottonmouths - the snakes do understand, I rarely ever see them anymore. I have shot 2 all summer.

Ohh come on mate, frog is the natural food for snakes..With that logic you would want to kill every natural predator.. Whats next?

Why do you persist? That is your logic not mine.

Frogs as well are Predators and Dragon Flies are a favorite of theirs.

The Cottonmouths attacked the Spaniel without reason for sustenance and availed themselves for the same cause.

the snake was provoked some how, it wasn't looking for kicks when biting your cocker spaniel.

I had a snake in my front foyer about 6 months ago. I thought the cat brought it in dead and I went and told my partner, pretending it was alive. He got the hoe & killed it. The bloody thing was alive and had snuck in! It was only small. I felt sorry for it afterwards but I dunno how I coulda done it different. There's a lot of farming junk and all sorts of crap in the foyer and if it went under there I'd of never felt safe walkiing through there again so I will argue that one out with my maker if need be at the time. :)

I agree - what was said is the Moccasin bit the Spaniel for reasons other than to eat it. Others may have the same fate and am just setting the table as the Moccasin's did for the Spaniel. They left the Spaniel to die just after I had left them alone to live.

We come upon Rattlesnakes in the path on occasion. You may know they coil and are stout to hold their ground - we, including the dog walk by them and all is fine. Were they to lunge things would be different.

after reading your post i posted about it and checked my premise on google and made edits. i found out that cottonmouths not only attack when provoked but pursuit their preceived provokers until satisfied. the cottonmouth's provocation is extra-aggressive. so this animal not only wants to defend itself or defend its territory but wants to remove the threat entirely. is this some extra sense of knowing that a provoker can return and try some other approach to bother the cottonmouth later? hhhhmmmm.

has the cottonmouth developed to understand that they know that their attack approach is ultimately thorough so pursuing a possible returning threat is energetically appropriate to take out the threat the first time encountered?
