This is a great site, great concept, great execution! Well done. This reminds me of the Million dollar home page. I usually don't like to write reviews where I just gush about the site, but this is truly outstanding. I love it when people come up with great ideas like this, and then see success come out of it. Inspirational! Great job!!
Nice Copying indeed. I remember one of the very first post which I had read here on DP when someone had said that the average time of copying a good idea on internet is 45 days, well ppl have not even waited for that long(may be prmoting in webmasters forum is not the best of ideas ) and talking about being wrong [My Earlier Views], Nice to see prices in the range of 4096 to 8192. Another valuable lesson in internet life of mine learnt
Well, if you saw my earlier posts, whan mmmzr buttons were at $2 or $4, I came with an idea, and since I like The Matrix, I bought thechosenlink.com... First version, 2 people liked it, no negative comments, one $0.5 bid and one $0.6 bid, almost no traffic. Then I remade the site, with a better design but problematic because CSS3 vertical text is still not supported. I only got bad critics. Then I said, well, that idea just sucks, I'm stuck with a domain and I have to do something with it and I thought: The million dollar stuff was popular, the link experiment is popular, mmmzr is popular, then why not get the best of each one plus my own concept and put it together. 1 hour later the site was up and 2 hours later I started selling links until today at 6:00 AM. So 20 hours after, I went to sleep, happy to see that less original ideas can bring good results. So don't blame me, I just tried my own ideas but this time they didn't work as expected.
Yours is certainly creative. I worry that it might be too complicated for the average user, but you never know...
BTW, YFS1 is damn lucky because he site should get more attention than those who stuck in the middle like me, and he paid a buck for that
This question might have been answered somewhere in this thread (I don't have time to read all posts at the moment) so excuse me please if I am asking it again. . Why the money needs to go back and forth?
I just requested a purchase of a button space on thechosenlink. However, I think the concept of buttons moving down each column provides an ongoing effect. I think??
Yeah, I think as spots on www.thechosenlink.com start filling up there is less reason to buy a spot because there's no further way to get money back from it.
The site is awesome but my concern would be the top links charging back. Because of the way the system works (refunds) a chargeback would kill every bit of profit. I'd definately consider having more rows to offset the risk of losing it all in one pop.
Ehrm Lets look at sales and payments.... $1 Refunded + $1 $2 Refunded + $2 $4 Refunded + $4 $8 Refunded + $8 $16 Refunded + $16 $32 Refunded + $32 $64 Refunded $128 Gonna stop there for simplicity sake. As you can see on a $128 sale you have collected a total of $255 for that column. You have refunded $127 and made additional payments of $63. That is a total of $190 out and $65 left in reserve. When $256 comes in another $128 + $64 ($192) goes out leaving $64 + the $65 in reserve for a total of $129. You will always have an overflow of the next lowest ad sale amount +$1. This is great as you can see there is a fortune now that the ads are up to $8192. The thing I would be scared to death of is a chargeback. Lets say someone paid $256 and charged back. When $256 is sold you will pay out the $192 leaving yourself only $129 (in the bank). If that $256 charge gets cancelled you have lost every cent of profit plus an additional $127. If it happened at the current rates of $8192 you would lose $4000 out of pocket as well as the $8192 payment since you have already refunded everyone. Also, not sure what paypals stance is on this as they specifically prohibit pyramid stuff. I love the concept but I would be scared to death the more and more it grew.
This is not pyramid stuff. With pyramid scams, the last sucker looses. With mmmzr, the last investor wins. A top notch bit of ad space that is. Exactly as it says on the menu.
I understand the concept and the fact that it harms nobody but paypal have been known to act funny on various things. Cheers.
That is indeed true and why I recommended half way the thread to have a back up payment facility ready if need be. Also, IMO, when people start paying 5 figures, I'd insist on wire transfer to eliminate fraud.
