I need help building traffic, but im tired of trying the same old methods.

Hey, everyone. I'm new to this forum as a member but i have been browsing this site for years. I had started many websites in the past but unfortunately non of them made it. I would like to think its luck more then anything else. I have tried just about every trick in the book and still did not get desired results.. I'm about to give it another go and start a new website. I would like to ask you guys, if there is a solid way to succeed in this. Sort of like a rule book. Is there? I ask because, most articles on the net give tips about how to increase an already working website, but no one ever speaks of what to do from scratch.

By the way I am talking about websites like failblog.org. Picture entertainment sites.

I have tried:

1. Proper SEO(keywords, descriptions, tag, picture tags, alt text, descriptive titles and permalinks. )

2. Submitted to Social Bookmarking sites. A lot of them (Received very little return traffic and it was temporary. plus on some sites they considered as spam and banned the account. )

3. Submitted to Directories (No one uses those anymore and any that are still decent spam you non stop if you sign up with them and most are NoFollow)

4. Submited to Article directories. (But the problem with that is, with my type of websites. Humor, picture sites, there is no decent article you can write that would interest people enough to visit the link related to it. Since its not a tool or a product)

5. Submitted to tons of search engines. (But then realized that was useless because they have spiders that do that and you would have gotten indexed anyway.)

6. Attempted to do link exchanges and emailed many admins to swap links. (Most never replied, and those that did told me sorry since i have no little to now google PR, adding me would ruin their reputation.)

7. Participated in forums. Tried helping in forums and had my link in signature. (But because I participated in forms with people with similar interests they stole content and got banned fro ad-sense due to invalid click activity i had nothing to do with.)

8. Got Facebook and Twitter accounts (almost now way to get real fans unless you advertise with facebook and then it costs about $2 per fan & paying for service to buy followers also backfires due to fake accounts and unreal users joining)

So as you can see I have tried tons of methods and I had about 15-35 unique visitors daily based on what google analytics showed me. And PR3 google rank.

I know there are a lot of successful webmasters here and I don't expect you guys to give up your secrets but I figured.. ill give it a shot anyway.

I hope someone can genuinely help me so I can finally start right this time.

Are there any proven techniques that would work for a website that is starting out from scratch, to build traffic in a consistent growing manner.

There has to be a proper way to do this. Please help and be as detailed as possible

What kind of social media. This is a humor entertainment site. What kind of media can relate to this? Any sites in particular? Also what is wrong with the methods i have listed above? Where those the wrong things to do? or did i do them wrong?

Out of all the methods you have tried, you never mentioned YouTube or any other video hosting service.
Place a funny video on YouTube place a link in the description to your site.
Tell viewers to watch more by clicking on your link.
Funny can go viral very quickly....viewers may also "like" or Tweet the video (tell them to do it)
Try uploading to TubeMogul or Pixelpipe.....they will syndicate your videos, articles, images etc... to many sites.

Try not to focus on what you are doing wrong, but on things you are doing right....sharpen your focus and do it again!

I know it can be disheartening when all seems to fail, but it all depends on how hard you try.
If you try something once or twice and it seems like it doesn't work do not abandon it. Try focusing intently on ONE thing
and try to perfect that before moving on.

Looking at the website listed failblog.org. One important message I see there is :-

It is a lot easier to FAIL than it is to SUCCEED

the only thing remaining is the social book marking and social media optimization, and some video marketing. you can get benefit by these process.

I know how you feel man. But the key is persistence. It's not a process that happens over night! It's something that you have to work at everyday for atleast 2 or 3 hours a day. Getting your site out there on the web takes lots of effort! Persistence, hardwork and passion is the key! If you believe your site will make it! Then it will make it!

If you can possibly spare the membership fee, I would highly recommend checking his stuff out. I'm not putting an affiliate link or anything. I just know he's helped a lot of people finally get it right. I don't know a lot about picture entertainment, but if you think it's applicable, he has a step-by-step system to make you money with your website.

The biggest noticable jump in traffic came for me after advertising my site on youtube,, a couple of days after advertising in some videos on there i was getting an extra 300 visits a day, did a second ad and up 500 a day

 

i would look at buying solo ads as a jump start.

Press release

You would want to incorporate this into your link building plan to have a complete plan.

It works.

 

Purchase traffic .. not for revenue lol ... for increase the alexa rank..

Your website will get a good rank in google and you will be able to recieve organic traffic..

now you can earn good..

It's always a great idea to do some research on your keywords even before building the site or choosing the domain name, that way you can find out beforehand if the site is worth it

 

Seems the most important point is not there
The content, original and fresh content, this might be the key for humor site. Do you think you will bookmark or revisit the humor site with all old joke???

 

No offense, but "same old methods" are whats available and those methods work. However, you have to do your part. You can't work a few weeks or months on these methods and expect to have thousands of visitors a day. Its a never ending process, you have to keep working on it to keep up with compatitors.

To be honest, there is no easy or quick way to get real good traffic. It takes work and time. All these methods have worked for me and are still working for me. Unfortunately, many of us, are not willing to put enough time and effort into them, but we expect great results. Well, that is not going to happen.
