I seen a thread started "post your biggest marketing mistakes" so i thought it would be better to post your biggest breakthroughs or what did you do to make more money online.

I will say one of mine: The discovery of craigslist.org

That is not a marketing break through that is just another site you became aware of unless you are the founder ;)

How did you use Craigslist to create a marketing break through?

My biggest breakthrough was when I stopped trying to do everything low cost and really started spending money. Takes money to make money.

Good for you! The point is to share your marketing break-through technique. Not just wag your tail stating Craigslist helps me!

Internet itself helps me because it allows me to be in the market in the first place! This too could be a marketing break-through!

I don't think anyone is going to give details about their big secrets, then their secrets will be used, exploited, and eventually not work anymore. =\

I found a few good ones so far:

I figured out a couple tricks with social news and bookmarking sites.

I figured out how to get tons .edu backlinks.
(I still dunno if .edu's carry more weight than regular domains, but they can't hurt)

And a couple more things, but I don't want to even give a basic idea on what they are.

The more you read and play with stuff, the more you figure out.
It's also a good idea to make friends, friends with powerful websites =P

But still, don't count on people to just throw their little secrets out for all to see and use. You gotta figure that kinda stuff out on your own.
    Good luck!

Learning how to automate ABC testing in sites I design & deploy. It makes life freaking sweet when you can just set up a site to run between several templates for a certain amount of visitors, automatically test itself, and then re-calibrate itself on the fly to meet the actual use of actual visitors.

Testing is the most important part of the game, but all too often the results of the test never get implemented and then RE measured. Changing that makes all the difference.

Oh, that, and StumbleUpon. I love SU. I am an SU addict, and make sure everything we create gets thrown in the SU bin.

    Cheers,

I'll have to go with Naples,

"It's also a good idea to make friends, friends with powerful websites"

Joint ventures is where its at, and building relationships with others that are in your target but not direct competitors (although that can work too if well crafted)

The secret? Is there is no secret!

Its combining multiple techniques and integrating what works for your particular situation.

However if you leverage what the internet already offers which is "networking" then you will be good to go....

You sell to one person, make them happy, but that person should be an influnetial person in your target market .

In turn, that one person will sell to many others for you. Thats leverage.

But you need to put yourself in a place where you can co-mingle with like minded people in your target niche.
