Hello, Digital Point! I'm a full-time freelance writer from the UK. I'll be 22 in three days and, ahead of my b'day, I figured it's time to up my game and extend my business and contacts. I'm looking forward to learning from the community and – as a modestly successful young lady making it on my own – hope to also be a valuable contributor.

Nope! "Freelance" means self-employed and independent. Someone who earns the graft through several clients as opposed to working for one. I do it on a full-time basis and love it. I get to be my own boss, and I treat myself well!

Freelance isn't always as good as working in an established company. Just to let ya kno!
Imaging working Mon-Friday, 8am-4pm in an established company.... for the same amount/more money you'd make freelancing All day, everyday busting your brains out and spending every hour in front of the PC..... :(
Trust me, don't go off on your own unless it's worth it.

Working 8-4 in an established company, having to play the corporate game, take orders from someone probably nowhere near as smart as me :p and let a company make the majority of profits from my graft? Even for a salary, my answer is No Thanks.

I've always been an independent spirit. I don't want to answer to anybody, so freelancing is perfect for me. :)

I agree with ya and I feel the same. But we all wanna get somewhere and get there fast. We all have big dreams but lack the financing. You're freelancing not mainly cuz you love writing, but you do so cuz you also need the money. Why not wrk and freelance on the side. Its may add up to double the dough at the month's end. :)

Sometimes in life we just gotta weigh it out and make the smarter decision even if its not pleasurable. If sacrificing my independence TEMPORARILY means getting towards my dream faster, then so be it. While you may still be freelancing 5 yrs from now (I'm taking generally), another guy who sacrificed his freedom in the past might be living his dreams and actually outsourcing work to you :D
So in the end you're actually still working for others while you could have had others working for you. :p

But money isn't really on everyone's mind. If you just do what you do cuz you love it, and its giving you just enough money to get by and that's all you want/need.... then by all means, keep it up and good Luck DanielleClarke.

I find the Freelance world to be a "survival of the fittest" scenario. Too many times you find yourself doing jobs for half its worth just so you won't lose work to the guys who sell themselves short cuz they can afford to, most likely cuz freelancing is a part-time gig for them so any extra dollar would do. :(

In Most established companies, there's also specialization. Most jobs in the freelance world, you often find yourself venturing outside your expertise doing stuff you may not like just to win a client over. Employers are so accustomed to an all-round service, that outsourcing has lost its meaning. You're no good out here unless you can do web-design, web-programming, article writing, SEO Optimization, etc all together for the same costs on the same project.

I think freelancing will always remain a part-time duty by me. :)
It works out for many, but I think you gotta be well established to be paid what you're really worth in the Freelancing world.

Thanks for the welcome, everyone, and the interesting conversation too about freelancing.

Maybe I'm somewhat idealistic in my youth, but all I want to do is live reasonably comfortably and be my own person. I don't care about being rich. Being able to write fulltime and use my inherent entrepreneurial spirit to market myself is something I love doing. All the while I was doing my English Lit & Language degree, this was my goal. To work for myself, doing what I love.

I agree that freelancing can be hard work. But if you're confident in your abilities (as I am in mine; my first magazine article was published when I was 12!), know your worth, and are able to "think outside the box", the opportunities are there. Mainly because you create them!

I have been fortunate and have enjoyed modest success in my first year as a freelancer. I'll share some of my tips for finding higher-paying clients in another area on the forum in case other writers might find it useful.

Thanks again for the welcome, everyone. And good luck to other DP newbies! This seems a very friendly community. :)

Welcome. New here too though I spend much time on Warrior Forum. To the point.

I am looking for someone to do some article rewrites. I will
provide all of the original content so, the only thing that the
selected candidate would have to do is simply summarize and
rewrite the articles in a format that is acceptable to Article
Directories. Someone that speaks and writes English fluently is a
requirement as the articles will be read mostly by people from
    the United States.

Do you have a word count rate? Or what is your price structure?

I'm looking for prime quality articles for a news site on the mobile revolution.
There are some newsy articles I'd like summarized and rewritten about 650 words plus.
    I'll supply articles.

If we can agree on price and delivery, I need a regular contributer....say 1 post or 2 a week.

Also I need several 250 word articles on various subjects based on keywords for different niches. Quality unimportant. Must be acceptable on Ezine articles.

    Awaiting your reply.
