I first was notified of the problem when my mom said she could not access the site through firefox. I had no problem with firefox or IE. The link checker above works find if using IE. Any one have any ideas of what might be causing the problem? I have tried various things already such as changing the doc type, pulling meta tags, and taking out some third party script, which had no effect on the validation. The only clue I have right now of what is going on is the validation, and my error reports that I just recently checked. Thanks in advance for any thoughts and/or solutions. I made the corrections to all except the one error. I actually took that out and let my layout go wacky, and still got the 406 error on the W3C link checker. That last error was something I learned on the web. I didn't know at the time that position:resolute; was not a position value. Somehow it works. I tried putting in fixed and absolute, but somehow everything seems to get messed up. I'm thinking it has to do "server-side issue with negotiation". Then again I got that message when I was checking the links on my blog. My website link on my blog received the server-side issue message. I recently found out that blogger has do not follow on links. I know I have SSI, but it is not on my index page. On my other pages it is <!--#include virtual="menu.txt" --> apache already has a handler for the .shtml extension. I never added anything to the .htaccess.

The error is from the link checker, not Firefox. Looking at the http responses, there are no 406 errors returned. Using the link checker through IE also returns a 406 error. Your server is probably misinterpreting the link checker and returning the 406 error, or some mime-type, which throws the checker off.
Thanks for the input. In other words, because the server is misinterpreting something neither the link checker will work, nor will my mom be able to access the site through firefox on her end. I guess that is why I thought it was a firefox problem. I thought she had the new beta. Here she has the same version of firefox, and the same version windows XP as I do. I am able to access the site, and she isn't. She said she was getting a 404 error. With the 404 errors I have seen in my stats, I'm assuming there is a portion of people who can not access the site. I'm not sure what else to do. I contacted my host, and they seem to think the problem is on my end. Typical for most tech support no matter if it is the hosting company, ISP, or cable company. Maybe there is something I can add to the .htaccess? Maybe I'm worrying about nothing??
Works for me on Chrome and Firefox. Try clearing the cache (Ctrl + Shift + Del). Also, you could use htaccess to disable caching. The following website teaches how to change how the server tells browsers to cache stuff. http://www.askapache.com/htaccess/using-http-headers-with-htaccess.html
Thanks for testing it out on Chrome and Firefox for me. I updated CCleaner, and cleared out the cache, history, everything. I put the code in to prevent files from being cached. I update the site when I can, which I hope will be fairly frequently. Even after doing all of that, the link checker still comes up with the 406 error. I don't have the URL, or which checker but there were a couple of other type of checkers that came up with 406, and one said page not found. Can host admin block checkers specifically? If so, then maybe my mom's computer just needs cleaned out.
Servers look at the http headers and, as I said, detect something in them from the checker and serve it differently than browsers. Since we (and you) can see the page just fine, there is something obviously wrong with your mother's computer or browser installation.
I have this error when I try to browse this site http://dancersdatingonly.com/ but I dont get any errors in any other browser??? What is this all about?Â
This is really strange, that is a server error. And I installed a plugin for Chrome "click to see how the site looks in IE" And there I see it without errors... Â
