Recently I got some hosting problem on my sites and my sites' content were gone. That force me to recreate the content (i didn't back up... sad..). The result is adsense ads drop a lot. So i start to play with the url filter wish to filter those low paying sites. I didn't add many, only about 20 sites. That made the earning drop by another 30%! I kept it for 3 days, hoping that earning would go up. But the fact is that it never. Then I remove the whole list and on the 2nd day, my earning back to normal. Just to share it so please be careful when you want to use the url filter to boost your earning.
Google already displays only the best paying ads, so eliminating "low-paying sites" will only get you other, even lower-paying ads. Use the competive URL filter only to exclude competitors or adult/gambling/pharmacy stuff.
I would suggest removing one or two ads at a time. Adding 20 at a time or using blacklist is a pointless idea. Your site is unique and so is your ad situation.
The limitations of google prevent it from working. You only get 200 site slots. There are thousands of sites that should be blocked overall. You need to block ads that will likely appear on your site not the global list of sites. Do the work and block your own ads.
I use adsblacklist, but I also check my website, and see what ads that displayed by google. Then from the url, i check it my self, open it on another window and see if this ads come from MFA website. I also take advantage of overture, to see bids for my website keywords, and put some website with "low paying" to my filter (of course by updating the list, cos we can't put more than 200 websites) Hope it helps
Yeah, only filter your competitor's ad, plus a bit of MFA sites you have knowledge of. Filtering the whole 200 sites from AdsBlackList might not give you an optimized earning figure.
I did not agree to this comment in my experience. Let me describe it. I manually removed a lot of MFA sites and my earnings dropped since google could not optimize well with the remaining sites and users did not click to ads (as you know MFA sites use some magiccal words in their ads! Normal advertisers use more serious words.) But after a few weeks my earnings are doubled! Because my pay per click is increased. So in my opinion, you should give a few weeks chance to MFA-removing process! Of course this is based on my observations but i believe this since my per click did not move so much normally..! Good luck..
That's the point of AdsBlackList. It gives you custom list based on tags/keywords. Based on your niche, I personally don't know how will it perform once you add 200 URLs to your empty filter list because it might shake the google adsense algorithym, but as casperl said, give it a few days/weeks and you'll notice dramatical changes. My sunday (today) earnings (and CPM) were never higher, honestly. Sohan, do you mean you blocked 200 urls or you removed filter list from your account? learn_adsense, that's the best possible way to use ABL. You simply extract URL from ads running on your sites and have them checked manually. Whenever you notice possible MFA or LCPC, you simply report it to ABL and have other webmasters/admins review and vote for it.
In my experience earnings have gone up after filtering some urls. But I'm not trying to guess which are low-paying ads. I just filter those sites that are obviously MFA. Using AdSense Preview Tool I check periodically each url that seems "suspicious" to me and if I find that the landing page has nothing but ads or has very poor content I block it. This works fine for me and the number of sites in my filter list is around fifty.
Oh actually I am thinking about that maybe it takes time to let google to optimize the ads. So what you mean is the removal takes weeks to see result, is it? In my case, after I filter out those MFA such as shop4xxx.com or top4xxx.com or exxxinfo.com, i saw even worse MFA come out.... Can you share more about the experience, such as after you filtered the url, you saw a drop first then a boost of earning?
I did check every site and all the url in my filter are MFAs.... but the problems is, after i filter the first batch, 2nd batch came and pay even less....
Search for jackburton2006's post about filtering ads and you will know everything. And if you are using filter, let it more than day or two.
Why do you suggest removing one or two ads at a time? any particular reason? Can you share more about it?
It differs for people. For me, using the competitive ad filter also decreased my earnings, while for others it increased it. I would experiment by testing it out for a few days, and then go from there.
I'll take a well targeted (lower paying) ad over a 'high' paying (spammy) ad any day. Works best for me. I have no regard for crap targeted spam. Don't care if it pays $5-$10 a pop. Will take a month for one person to click it anyways. Point being 100 clicks @ .05c is better then 5 clicks @ .75c When i'm hunting for crap to filter out, i'm looking for relevence. (Unless i know for a fact that the site is (~mfa) crap (which i often do check up on)) - Basically filter anything that one can assume a user wouldn't bother clicking (ringtones/ebay/obvious dynamic ads/etc..)
Yes. This is the case for me. In the first week, earnings dropped but currently i am getting same amount when i started adsense (at least 2 times of what i earned with MFA sites.) Yes this is exactly what happened to me. If the income from adsense is not critical for you (i mean the possible drop does not effect your life much) then i suggest you to test it for weeks not days! And in fact i check/remove MFA sites two times weeks ago. I should check the MFA sites again when i have some free time (maybe new ones started to appear on my site).. Good luck.
