Mobile internet why cost per day?

    Hi everyone,

Just out of interest I was looking around for the costs of pay-as-you-go mobile internet. I don't know what I'm missing but the costs are on a daily or monthly basis as well as in terms of data transfer, which I don't understand.

For instance, 3 offers £2.99 per 500mb per day. I presumed you pay for an amount of data transfer and are free to use it over any time scale. Is this not the case?

Daily plan means you will be charged for just one day, you will have to use up the allocated bandwidth within the day or it will expire.

£2.99 per 500mb per day?? Sounds expensive, I pay $2.5/Month for 2GB bandwidth, 3.1 Mb/ps Data transfer speed.

    In India, we have
    - 10MB for 1 day pack,
    - 50MB for 3 day pack or
    - 2GB for 30 day pack.

Don't you have similar offerings in your country?

Aw that's crap! As if they give you a time limit. Greedy bastards!

Which company are you with? That sounds like a great deal.

I have a 2GB data plan with Verizon wireless for $30 per month.  What I can't believe is that they charge extra for tethering!

This isn't necessarily mobile phone internet, this is mobile internet, i.e. a computer dongle/receiver that allows access to the internet via microwave towers.

Not really, I often use my mobile as modem with my laptop. And normally the lowest I get is about 1.5 Mbps, highest being 3.1..
Sometimes it is shit, but mostly due to poor reception in the subway.

Thats because you are in a 3G area and using 2G plans. Otherwise 3G plans cost much. Or else 2G plans work slow.

im on three pay as you go.. and for a tenner i can swap my credit into 500 internet.. 100 mins and 3000 texts.. and that lasts a month.. when you top up you get 150 internet any way so for the 10er you actually get 650 internet for the month.. plus your mins and texts.. if you go with orange you can choose a animal package.. that also allows you to have internet for a month... difference being is that you top up 10 pound and you keep the 10 pound credit and at the end of the month it will award you your monthly allowances for the amount you have topped up in thsat month.. so say you top up 10 pound you get a bit.. 20 pound you get alot more.. 30 pound is unlimited.. lasts a month and you keep your credit..
