Bravo, Breeze! Smartest and most poignant comment I've seen on this thread in a long time!!!

Never let it be said that I don't go out of my way to compliment you when you have a moment of pure clarity.

I was hesitant to give him a compliment in this case. No doubt he'll respond by telling us how he never said it, or he'll try to convince us all that his statement meant something entirely different.

No, I believe that will be Blue Star's comment......however gratifying.

I left off that the entirety of the Administrations perceived deficit is derived wholly from the unfunded Iraqi war.

Guess I was wrong. Instead he just changes the subject to something that has nothing to do with what he was previously talking about.

If you wanted some positive input... you may get it by delving deeper into an explanation
    for this statement :

    As for this :

It makes no difference if I feel "gratifiied" by the telling the truth, which refutes your beliefs. I in fact
will not feel gratified until my country comes back from the economic strangulation it is under.

As a wise man said, "If only one man knows the truth, it is still the truth." The truth is, this is coming to
    the US economy :

    Come on Corwin.....

The stimulus is being financed at ~3% where do you come up with Trillion Dollar deficits from that ?????

The Recession can be accounted for by everything but the cost of the Iraqi War.

    Well here's another crazy idea!!!

I believe you should start a new thread called "United States Heading towards recovery"...and switch this convo to in there.

This one is only reinforcing to the universe (and to the people you need onside) that you're still falling.

Considering most of today's wealth was created by faith...(faith in certain stocks increases their values, faith in rising house prices increases value etc. etc.)...and the high level of the economy (the bubble) was built on all this faith, you need to start convincing people that you are recovering in order to bring back the faith in the economy.

As long as we're constantly reminded about America falling and falling (by things like this thread title, even though it's well past its use-by date), I believe that faith won't come back any time soon. Until you start looking for recovery instead of downfalls (good instead of bad), how will you turn it around?

While I agree currency and stock are faith based, this is not the case for the economy when unemployment is sky high BushRanger.

Tell it to those who have lost their livelihood and their homes that they have their mindset wrong... how naive are you?

Naive in many ways yes. Though I have been homeless and it ain't THAT bad. :) Opens your eyes up to think smarter... but those that have lost are the ones that overstepped in reality, relied on credit. Those not living on credit (like me) won't have lost a thing...

But if this depressed state continues then it can only go downhill IMHO.

I'm not argunig here the benefits of recession, i'm arguing it's time to start digging yourself out by thinking positive. (not you literally as I know you're in UK)
I believe we create our own prosperity and it's the lack of faith that has caused the bubble to burst. Everything that the bubble was built on is still there but now because people have lost faith in everything they lose their spirit, then their job.

I believe that's how the force works, you get what you put out. If you're constantly saying we're heading into depression you will be constantly falling further...hence the reason why you need to start looking up. I BELIEVE every time people read this title (whether in their head or aloud) they are adding to the force, telling it "WE WANT TO HEAD INTO A DEPRESSION". So, that in itself doesn't help.

I'm not saying this one little thread has so much power, there's many like it. But each one in itself adds to the force.

Why not try turn it around? only trying to help eh! :)

OK I see what you mean. I fully agree that a positive attitude can help. Even when you have lost everything it certainly doesn't help to dwell on it and give up. Someone once said to me "When I'm walking about in the rubbish, I put my back to the wall and have my little panic. Once done I can then think how I'll climb back up - once you've hit the bottom, the only direction left is up".

I do live in England, yes, but we're still feeling the pain. Inflation has caused food and petrol prices to hit all time highs, and as if that's not hard enough for people who work (everyone right? Class is irrelevant) the bankers' best friends in Parliament have hiked up all taxes and decreased spending (the latter wouldn't be an issue if the former was the inverse). Also, new lending and mortgages are non existent. I heard on the radio that in one of the poorest areas a £20,000 deposit is needed first to even qualify for a mortgage. HURRAY for quantitative easing and the banker bailouts! There's no resistance to banker demands here, we do everything they say and we're no better off. You hear that Breeze and Earl?

You yanks have more balls and brains than most people here. Tell the bankers they have to show something for their money this time. They take and take and take and nothing improves. Demand a 5 year charter, that should shake them up as they'll have to do some good if they want it renewed.

We're the new generation of renters, they say. I can kiss goodbye to old values of freedom and private property.

The first step toward recovery is to acknowledge there is a problem. The problem is that the greed that humanity has was used against them by the bankers, who are obviously on the winning end of the deal. Human systems have humans as both the weakness and the strength. The bankers offered cheap loans, many countries took them. They were called "sub-prime" in the United States. The bankers knew they may not get their money back and the upper level bankers were actually COUNTING ( betting ) that many would not pay them back, but still went on giving out the nearly free money.

    Making this shorter...

When people use the first form of government, i.e. "think and act for myself" they also by necessity take responsibility for their actions. The second form of government, i.e. "have others think and act for me" and they do not take responsibility for their actions and start looking for scapegoats.

When the faith ( as you said ) is there, that people can accomplish great things, there must by necessity be the liberty to do so.

    Where is that thread ?...

    Because that isn't true.

To re-hash the problem with the economy: the manufacturing sector is dying, causing the middle class to drop into the lower class. In the past, if you were a motivated individual with a high-school education, you could get a job building cars, toasters, televisions, etc. These jobs and more are now overseas. For example, G.E. just announced that they are moving their X-Ray and Cat Scan division from Waukesha, Wisconsin to China. I've been to G.E.'s campus in Waukesha Wisconsin - it's huge and impressive and supports an economy of thousands of people. Illegal immigrants are being allowed to dilute the work force. And Fitch, Moody's S&P et al all reacted badly to an increase in the debt ceiling, claiming that the U.S.'s staggering debt must pay down the debt or the U.S. credit rating will be reduced.

The United States government is drowning in debt because we have a trade deficit of $50 Billion PER MONTH and growing. And no one is talking about tariffs. I'd vote for any candidate, from either party, that is willing to address this. Only Hillary Clinton has the guts to explain this and because of this the Democrats marginalized her. If we fixed the trade deficit, we could afford Medicare, Social Security, the Military, and gobs of pork spending.

Why is no one talking about tariffs???

No President has ever been re-elected with an unemployment rate of over 6.2%. To reach 6.2% the economy must create 300,000 jobs each month, every month, starting today, up until November 2012. Real Unemployment is at 16% and if history is any indicator, all 16% will vote against the incumbent president.

Bushranger, you can be callous and cold all you want, but this country is in the middle of the most severe financial crisis since the Great Depression and no one has predicted an end to this. My God, people are going homeless and hungry!!! Don't you have any feelings???

Feelings? For the starving people of Africa, the dead in Iraq? sure, I have feelings. But even if you're "HOMELESS" in any western civilisation, it could be worse. If you have allowed your country to let people starve on your own streets whilst still spending trillions on useless wars then more fool you.

    ----

I agree 100% the bankers are to blame for the mess and think the collapse was caused by 'likely dodgy' shareholders losing FAITH, but I think overall they believed they were making things better (by making people richer too). You must remember it was the bankers who built the bubble and many profited for a long time and many still are profiting on their profits made in the bubble times. In the end they lend out non-existant money so people can build stuff, so people do.

It was those bankers who built your local shopping centres and petrol stations plus many more of the things we take for granted. Do we want these things ?

The depression occured (IMHO) because we turned society into being all about how much money you can make, and you must admit, those bankers made a lot of money for a lot of people for a long time. Only some people were bothered enough to attain wealth and they have moved ordinarily living from 'free' to 'pay'. It is IMPOSSIBLE to function 'normally' without being part of society and that involves paying out a lot of money just to survive day to day.

Whilst we can blame many things, it was the switching EVERYTHING to private that's finally toppled it IMHO. Everything we as a people built up as a society because it was neccessary, electric stations, telecoms, hospitals, fire stations, schools, prisons, corner stores, has been bought out by some corporate mob and that mob (being so big) is then forced into paying higher wages and sickening CEO salaries. Because of this we get suckered with higher bills to pay the higher wages and make ever-increasing shareholder profits (driven by the sharemarket).

Allowing corporates to control EVERYTHING and putting shareholder profits above morals written into law. That's what increased the divide and the depression of the people. While the people are depressed they ain't blowing up the bubble again.

People with shares and home owners were doing exceptional for a few years there. But more and more people (who never owned shares or houses) were getting upset with lots of stuff going on around them, wars, prices, many losing faith (and their homes and jobs) and wondering where we are heading anyway, that alone was enough to have caused the depression IMHO.

Sure you can come on here and give us all kinds of reasons (like I just did) of why it is failing. Not a problem. But, in order to get back on your feet you need to stand up and do something towards getting yourself better. You can only whinge or be sad for so long before you wither away and die altogether (or people won't want to visit no more).

If you can't pick yourself up out of a depression in 3 years (this thread is over 3 years old) then your friends (people like me) need to tell you, STFU, get off your ass and start doing something about fixing it! :)

All of western civilisation faces exactly the same dilemma you guys face and it seems it is all about to implode yet again. How can this be when those same buildings that were built are still in place...the same businesses are selling MORE stuff.

The whole lot was built up on FAITH and too many people don't want it rebuilt the way it was. No one has any idea how to solve it so best start looking for the good and making that better rather than look for bad and make that worse.

If all you can see are problems then you have a problem. Look further, there's a LOT of good going on too.

You could fix all your problems that everyone's mentioned here so easily - drop government terms to 12 months (makes it easy to chuck em out before causing too much damage and you can always revote a good one back) - start splitting up the huge corporations today!

Like that's ever gonna happen whilst you're on here whinging about the people who are "hopefully" trying to fix it. I believe it is up to us as citizens to VOTE for the people we think will fix it for us! :)

And, if you can't fix stuff in 4 years then definately not coming back, if only the opposition wasn't Republican. :)

For a majority yours is / was the correct response Bushranger at least till the 2010 elections - the Recession ended in June of 09 when the GDP became positive since Dec. 07 declines and the recovery was underway.

Since January 2011 the recovery has been stalling and in no small part due to the intransigencies established by the Congressional Republicans who's partisanship would rather have a President fail as well as the Nation in pursuit of their own political objectives than working for the common good.

In fact "United States Heading towards recovery" is actually past tense to the fact Recovery was already accomplished / underway and your statement itself is a regression that most of the participants in this thread unwittingly should be praising for their role in bringing it to a standstill.

If the Congressional Democrats could find their backbones and with the President carrying the Flag forewards we can indeed reestablish the recovery the Nation so desperately deserves and bring legitimacy to the political process voiding the partisan discord of the present.

    Good Call Bushranger.

So why can't the government (the biggest purchaser anyway) buy the old US factories and reopen them, switching their own government contracts (rewards) and buy their own stuff from themselves, instead of paying a lot more money out buying their own supplies from these huge international corporations that are taking profits and jobs overseas ?

You know Breeze Wood, I thought about that at the time of my post, even wrote a little about that before deleting that bit because my thoughts resulted with 'most Americans BELIEVE things are bad for everyone else in their country right now' and they really need to be weaned into the idea that things really ARE on the mend, just like they were weaned into believing it was all heading to hell in a handbasket before it got there.

Get them into believing things are on the mend, and then it will still get better anyway, even if we're there already as you say. I believe it's harder for people to simply wake up and digest 'hey, it's fixed today if I want it to be' and a sort of "preparation of the coming harvest" message is required first (and a message to the force portaying upward and on would be better than downward and down further). - Your suggestion and idea is totally correct and required but that thread would come after my suggestion, to play it properly by the 'laws' IMHO. Hopefully the "hope & renewal" message streaks ahead and in no time my suggested thread title turns into yours naturally. :)

I even wrote a little on how people should be listening to YOUR arguments more seriously but I thought that might totally throw the main subject of my post and distract some of our readers a little too much so I left that out too lol. I've made up for that now. :D

Go for it. I'm not American and wouldn't feel right. I like to think I can have some reasonable introduction in the threads I start and I don't want to start such a serious thread with my hokey pokey gumbo lol. It needs to start with a lecture on why America is heading out of its problems and I can't say I see that enough to write about it yet, or I would. :)

Don't insult your fellow man. Only so much can be achieved by faith. I thought this was all bullshit when it was first announced a couple of years ago and also thought the depression was largely a self fulfilling prophecy created by the media and other propagandists, but it hit eventually, it just took its time.

Faith won't stop the bankers from enslaving you in further debt that you can't pay back. Faith won't stop industry from fleeing to China and other oppressed nations. Faith won't force the banks to start loaning again so people can own possessions. Faith won't stop the puppets increasing taxes.

Only anger can stop this. It's time to get mad!

"I'm a human being dammit, my life has value! I'm as mad as hell and I'm not going to take this any more!"

The most fitting film ever made. If this doesn't send chills down your spine, you should leave the internet. God damn I need to buy this film.
