When will Americans learn that having your own cctld is awesome?! Especially .us is a cool sounding one, it gives every name a sort of "toys r us" ring. I can't believe how such good names get dropped in .us, while they remain viable in weak European extensions. Just sold a non 3d .us domain yesterday for 300, so I guess it ok to pump some of it back in. Hopefully 1 year from now 3d will be hot enough to make even the .us domains hot as well : )

i just couldnt justify the amount of renewals i would have had i decided to let them all drop some nice ones i had as well :)
some .us names do well seen a few good sales before but in something like this its hold hold hold until its major mainstream and .coms are selling hard before any interest goes down to them
    shame really

I hear ya! On the one hand I missed the boat with good 3d names, on the other hand renewing .us domains since 2007 - 2008 wouldn't have been very viable anyways. I dont live in the USA, so I don't know how well .us domains rank? Seems to me like a bit of an seo wizzard could make a killing getting cheap .us premium keyword domains to rank high? Here in Europe, don't think I have ever had a .us come out on top when I did a search. It is crazy how easy it is to rank high with a .nl keyword domain when you search in google.nl: totally different results than a google.com search. Too bad there is no google.us! I think this is one of the main reasons .us is a weak extension - there is no domestic search engine advantage to it, unlike all other cctlds.

    something i thought about was
    whats your top 5 names
we did this a long time ago on the thread but times have changed since then with movements in the tech and other things like sales
so thought it would be interesting to see what people rate thier top 5 3d names
heres mine right now i like these not all .coms you will notice :)
not saying these are the best names i have but these are ones i am really happy to own :)

    1. 3dNoGlasses.com I just like this one, I think it sounds catchy : ) When I tell my friends about this name they crack a grin and digg it. 1600 exact monthly searches isn't exactly huge, but it's something. Paid up front till 2016 so I can let it mature : )
    2. holographics.eu The extension may be weak, but some European entities pay well for .eu domains. Payed it up front till 2016 as well, by then I hope it will be an somewhat prestigious domain for companies with a Pan Euro presence.
    3. 3-d.nu Another crap extension, but monster of a name. .nu is not that unpopular in Dutch and Scandinavian countries where it means "now".
    4. I gotta give to one of these .us drops I just caught: 3dchat.us / 3dwebcam.us
    5. and these 3d-sex.us and 3dporno.us
    : )

I've not had good luck ranking .us, even in the US. I know the idea is that in your country it's supposed to rank just as well as the big TLDs, but I've not seen that.

I had a .us domain that was ranking 11th on goolge US. I bought the .org, transfered the site over to it, and 301 redirected the .us links to it and it now ranks 3rd on google US without any additional link building over what the .us extension had.

Maybe it is because .com essentially is seen as the country code in America? I can imagine the searchengines dont want to piss everyone in the US off by allowing .us domains to compete with, let alone outrank .coms. Americans have invested billions in .com, far more than anyone has invested in any extension, and .us is nothing but competition for all the interests invested in .com, even if it is domestic competition. Unfair though, for regular people, who cannot afford good .coms.

So what, has 3d taken off and become popular, are 3d domains worth as much as hoped when starting this thread?

-----"So what, has 3d taken off and become popular, are 3d domains worth as much as hoped when starting this thread?"----

Its a bit early to have become "popular" as you call it..most of the 3D devices have only just been launched, it will be a few years until 3D is really mainstream..like any technology,
you need the competitors to launch the devices, which will cause the prices to drop and only then will it be adopted by the masses. Its a too expnsive at the moment.

I get offers all the time on my 3D names but you would be stupid to sell decent names at this stage of the game...Patience is key here!!!!

Personally I am not sure if .CO combined with 3D are at the point that it will make you money *YET*!
Both are speculative right now *BUT* are coming on strong.

Are you willing to hold onto that name for a little while (a year or two)?

Anyways, Only had one domain name accepted into the FT auction.
    3D Database (com)
I am not surprised that it got accepted but I did tack on a larger reserve price then everyone else who where willing to divulge their prices.
At 20k, it may be the most expensive of the lot (but I dont know for sure).

I guess we will have to see what happens.

    Just thought I would share
    Cheers
